Modern slavery?
editSlavery is illegal under international law. I doubt the statement that "in some South American countries where state-sanctioned captivity of indentured workers still occurs". Is there any conclusive evidence of this?125.237.105.102 (talk) 07:02, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
- Ah. Yes, some people in poor countries are held in labor under forms of duress that might be deemed slavery. However, they were not put into that condition of servitude by raiders, hence do not belong in this article. Thanks in part to international law, the practice of attacking a town to carry away its people to work elsewhere has pretty much disappeared. Recent actions of Islamic State have raised the question again, but not so acutely as to be covered here. Jim.henderson (talk) 18:43, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
- The lead now contains the statement: 'Sometimes seen as a normal part of warfare, it is nowadays widely considered a crime.[citation needed]' Do we really need a citation for the claim that slavery is illegal essentially everywhere? Is there anywhere that it wouldn't be 'considered a crime'? Robofish (talk) 23:36, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- A source can easily be found. Ahm1453 (talk) 18:03, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
New Sections
editI did a little bit of research and it turns out Slave Raiding was a very common thing in human history. We might have to break this article into sections for each specified area where there was a slaver.
Currently, I am seeing:
Spanish Portuguese Ottomans Various Arab Nations Other European Nations Boers Vikings Ancient times in the Mediterranian Mongols and steppe people's
I know that there were regular raids between some Indian kingdoms, kidnapping and Ransoming. Any other, please do add to this list for the Future.
Also Please keep civil. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahm1453 (talk • contribs) 17:59, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
