When used with the "Redirect category shell" (Rcat shell) template:
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
- Template Redirect category shell may be used to add one or more rcat templates, along with their parameters and categories, to a redirect. For more information, see the documentation page below.
When used by itself:
- From outside draftspace: This is a redirect from a page outside the draft-article namespace (draftspace) to a page in draftspace. This redirect page must be outside of draftspace.
- The draft is located at Draft:R to draft namespace. You are welcome to improve the draft article while it is being considered for inclusion in article namespace. If the draft link is a redirect, then you may boldly turn that redirect into a draft article.
- Note: If this redirect is in draftspace, then it will populate Category:Pages with templates in the wrong namespace instead.
This template should not be substituted nor used to tag soft redirects. |
Purpose
editThis redirect category (rcat) template sorts redirects into two categories:
- Category:Redirects to the draft namespace – for cross-namespace redirects, and
- Category:Unprintworthy redirects – only redirects from the main-article namespace (mainspace)
- In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Mainspace redirects that target pages in the draft namespace are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy.
Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
This rcat is not for use on redirects that are in draft namespace. If placed on a draft-article redirect, it will not populate the expected categories; it will instead be sorted to Category:Pages with templates in the wrong namespace.
Usage
edit- Apply this rcat to a redirect in the following manner:
#REDIRECT (target article title)

- and when the redirect is in article mainspace, printworthiness should also be tagged:
#REDIRECT (target article title)

- Template Rcat shell is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT (target article title)
R to draft namespace
- This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat on all redirects from outside the draft namespace to an article title in draftspace. This rcat should never be used to tag any redirect that is in draftspace.
Parameter
editThis rcat takes one unnamed parameter for use when the draft article is titled differently than the redirect:
|1=(draft article title)
Do not include the "Draft:" prefix in the draft article title.
