Thank you for your efforts in Kevin Healey Donnie Park dispute
Not a conversation per se - so feel free to delete, archive etc. Just wanted to express my thanks for your efforts in bringing this to a sensible close. I have no specific interest in this case but a broader interest in seeing Wikipedia flourish and the ASD community get the support it needs and deserves. Pstansbu (talk) 19:03, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, Pstansbu, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your acknowledgment of my work with Donnie Park and KevinhealeyAutism to restore some civility and resolve their dispute. I had been slightly acquainted with Donnie Park previously (I was in the middle of reviewing a DYK nomination he'd made) but had never heard of Kevin Healey before finding the AfD discussion; it was a matter of seeing work that needed to be done and that I thought I might be able to do, which is much of my editing philosophy. Thanks also for your support of the ASD community. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 19:16, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
Time for something new
It's been a while since you installed your first script, and I think it's time for some more to help you in your work here. These next ones are not as comprehensive as the first one so I will introduce you to four new at the same time. You install them by copying the codes to your User:GrammarFascist/common.js page the same way you did with the first.
The first one is a very small but convenient tool. The only thing it does is to add a small cyan "aura" to the name of all editors who are admins. This way you instantly know if an admin is around/available/etc. Quite handy. (Documentation here) The code is:
importScript('User:Amalthea/userhighlighter.js');
The second one will enable you to automatically archive posts on talk pages. It may come in handy here since all your (good) work is generating quite a long talk page, and the bot have trouble keeping up with it. :) When installed a new text will appear at every post, similar to the [edit] at each heading. This will be on the same "line" but on the right-hand side and say [Archive]. You click on that and hey presto the post is archived. (Documentation here. Now, I'm terrified that I will archive something by mistake since the Archive-thing is so close to the scroll bar on the page so I keep the script "inactivated" most of the time by putting // in front of it when I'm not using it. I just remove those when I want to use it. You can see this in my common.js and its page history. The code is:
/* User:Equazcion/OneClickArchiver.js */
//importScript( 'User:Equazcion/OneClickArchiver.js' );// Backlink: [[User:Equazcion/OneClickArchiver.js]]
The third one is for making it easier when you help other editors with their drafts or in their sandbox(es). By adding it a new line with the word "Subpages" will appear in the "Tools" section in the left-hand column on each page. This way you can simply click on that to get to a special page where all the subpages connected to a page or a user page are listed. The code is:
mw.util.addPortletLink ('p-tb', wgServer+wgArticlePath.replace("$1", "Special:PrefixIndex/"+wgPageName+"/"), 'Subpages');
The last will help you editing overlinked articles. It will add the words "Highlight duplicate links" to the "Tools" section in the left-hand column of a page. When you click on it, all double, triple, etc. links in an article will temporarily get small red rectangles around the links. It works best on the article itself even if the documentation says that it can be done in edit mode. I usually keep two copies of the article side by side on the screen when I edit. One regular and one that I edit. This is how I managed to weed out all the redundant links in this diff. Quite a task otherwise. (Documentation here) The code is:
importScript('User:Ucucha/duplinks.js'); // [[User:Ucucha/duplinks]]
Well, that's all for now. There are still more that I think you might like, but we'll save them for a now. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 21:50, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, Cart, and thank you again for these very useful-looking scripts. I'm a bit confused about where exactly the archived conversations would go — that is, how the script determines what archive page title to use. The documentation for OneClickArchiver says it goes by "a page's MiszaBot configuration" but User:MiszaBot/config says that's no longer supported. I also can't tell if it matters what order I archive conversations in or if the scrpt will add each conversation in the correct chronological order automatically. As much as my talk page has indeed become unwieldy again, I'm hesitant to use a tool like that without understanding the basics of how it works. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 18:48, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- The script archives pages that are connected with some bot Misza or other. I just assumed you had one on your talk page. Even if MiszaBot is now out, its duties has seamlessly been taken over by some other bot performing the same duties. As most talk pages for articles etc. are connected to the bot system the OneClickArchiver can be used on those as well. Bots create new archive pages automatically according to the settings in the code, for it and archive threads in chronological order as determined by when the last post of the thread was made. You can set the frequency yourself. If you archive anything with the script it will just be added to the next available place in the archive regardless of when the posts were made. The archiving system just cut and paste texts from the talk pages to the archive, there is no sophisticated sorting system involved. The bot will also add an archive header that I see is missing from your archive. This header protects the archive from being easily edited by mistake. Look in my archive and you will see it. The system also makes it easier to search the archive through the search box, which is much better than looking for just the date, especially after a year or so when you have forgotten the date. Do you want me to set up an archiving system for you? Otherwise you can copy the code for it from the top of my talk page or see below. You will have to adjust the parameters to your preferences though. Once you have it in place you can make a dummy section on your talk page and archive it to see how it is done. or you could do some housekeeping on an article talk page that has a archiving bot system, like this one. Try clicking-archiving the oldest post there (presently one of mine, and as you can see from it the bot can not archive things that are not signed=time stamped, that will have to be done manually using the script). Here is a the code you could add to your talk page to keep it tidy:
{{User:MiszaBot/config |archiveheader = {{talk archive navigation}} |maxarchivesize = 70K |counter = 3 |minthreadsleft = 6 |minthreadstoarchive = 1 |algo = old(20d) |archive = User talk:GrammarFascist/Archive %(counter)d }}
- It will start to archive things to User talk:GrammarFascist/Archive 3 since the first two are already made. It will make a new archive page after 70K of text. It will leave at least six threads on the page no matter what. It will archive threads one at the time once they have become 20 days old. You can alter these parameters if you like. w.carter-Talk 20:55, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- Also a note about what PrimeHunter once told me: You can not just click-click-click on a page to archive, you have to wait a little while between the clicks to let the system reset, otherwise the formatting in the archive will be screwed up. w.carter-Talk 21:00, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- I just realized that I had delivered the code for the OneClickArchiving to you in its inactivated form. I just copied it from my js as it was. To activate it you need to remove the two // just before the word "importscript", I spoke of earlier so that the code is:

- Human3015, you're absolutely right that I should have followed up on one or both talk pages. This one simply slipped my mind. I'll get on it right away and with a little luck it might still hit the Main Page on a timely date. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 12:50, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
Archive fixed
I went ahead and added the {{talk archive navigation}} to the top of your first archive pages. This was not done on the three first pages since you started two of those manually and the third one was in between the systems. This header will prevent people from accidently edit in the archive since the header disables all but the top [edit] buttons. It also incorporate the first pages into the system for searching. I hope you don't mind me doing this, it was easier to "do" than to explain. ;) Everything seems to be in good shape now, and your talk page is much more accessible. I hope you liked the other scripts as well and have some use for them. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 15:57, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, Cart! I had that on my to-do list, but other things on the list had higher priority. I definitely don't mind you lending a hand. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 23:37, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Hey, I'm fine with adding the font info, I'm just curious if it's correct to double up on the info like that since it is already in the box (and should Aldus be added in the sentence) or what's the rule(?) here. Or is there one? Asking here only because it's more of a ? about how those article boxes are or should be used (and not about the article itself). Thanks! --MurderByDeadcopy"bang!" 20:30, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, MurderByDeadcopy, thank you for following up. The "article boxes" are called infoboxes, and you can read about how they are meant to be used at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Infoboxes. The main point relevant to the edit of yours that I reverted is that information in infoboxes, like information in the lead section of an article (the paragraph or paragraphs above the table of contents), is intentionally redundant. Both the infobox and the lead section serve to summarize some of the most important information in the body of the article. See also Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section. Thank you for trying to improve Wikipedia. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask me here, or to visit Wikipedia:Teahouse again. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 21:30, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

I answered your initial question on my talk page, but then did a little research and found what I was looking for...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Opportunities_for_commonality
I think that would cover using the word "while" instead of "whilst" - no non-American English speaker is going to be confused with the word "while" and it's rather strange for Americans, so a commonly understood word (while) would seem sensible. Spacecowboy420 (talk) 14:15, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
- That's an excellent point, Spacecowboy420. I knew about the commonality guideline but hadn't been thinking of it in the context of "whilst" since it isn't entirely unknown in US English. Thanks for the reminder! I'll change the whilsts to whiles. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 14:22, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
- I changed "whilst" to "while" - I thought it might be better coming from a British English speaker than... I'm assuming that you're American, so I guess than from an American English speaker. Spacecowboy420 (talk) 07:28, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
Your ACE question
I take particular objection to your asking people if they are cis or trans in an election. First of all, if people don't answer questions on that page, especially fully, for the people that read them that's a sign that they are unwilling to be open with the community. It then negatively affects their candidacy. Second, to speak specifically to the cis or trans part, it's very inappropriate and rude to ask someone if they are transgender. Think, would you go and ask someone that question randomly out in public? To quote one of many texts:
Some transgender people feel comfortable disclosing their transgender status to others, and some do not. Knowing a transgender person's status is personal information and it is up to them to share it. Do not casually share this information, or "gossip" about a person you know or think is transgender. Not only is this an invasion of privacy, it also can have negative consequences in a world that is very intolerant of gender difference - transgender people can lose jobs, housing, friends, or even their lives upon revelation of their transgender status.

-- Amanda (aka DQ) 15:36, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- DeltaQuad, I made it very clear in the phrasing I used that all of my demographic questions were optional and to be answered only in so far as candidates were comfortable answering them, and also my reasons for asking any demographic questions at all: to improve the diversity of ArbCom. Many cisgender people simply don't have the necessary background to adjudicate cases involving transgender topics and/or editors (including harassment of trans editors), although some do. If you've seen the RfC about wording in BLP articles about or mentioning trans people, then you must surely be aware this is an issue. This situation is not comparable to "go[ing] and ask[ing] someone that question randomly out in public". In any case, I'm genderqueer myself and hardly need a lecture on trans issues. It seems we will simply have to agree to disagree. Thanks for your input. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 15:50, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- Might it might be more profitable to address that topic directly, rather than obliquely through the lens of personal identification? Just a thought! MarkBernstein (talk) 21:42, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- With regard to Rich's answer, I don't think it's very unlikely somebody would not identify with any ethnicity, in particular; I do not. In this context, to "accept" those categories might mean to agree with being placed in one of those categories. Alakzi (talk) 21:49, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- A claim to be of no ethnicity would be telling in its own way. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 20:00, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

Then I realized that the main problem was that I'd neglected to allow scripts from grok.se, so my NoScript browser extension was preventing the chart from displaying and I was just getting text. D'oh. Thanks for your help, both of you! I'll get on with adding Multix to the page. Fingers crossed that I do that right at least. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 20:56, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
- Sure you will! w.carter-Talk 21:06, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
- Actually, I seem to have put it in the wrong position on the chart, Cart, but Gerda fixed it for me. Thanks again to you both! —GrammarFascist contribstalk 20:00, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
- Well, you can always blame Teddy... ;) w.carter-Talk 20:07, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

DYK for TodayTix
On 21 November 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article TodayTix, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that TodayTix, a ticket-buying app, launched the first mobile lotteries for theater tickets for both New York's Broadway and London's West End? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/TodayTix. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |
Disambiguation link notification for November 21
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Shooting of Jeremy Mardis, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page General population. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Edit and sources.
I see the link referencing the publication being discussed and am glad that you have taken the time to review the dispute. Your reference to require a secondary source is patently absurd as even DC comics published once and is done for characters. Their own reference does not make the reference any more valuable for historic references. Both DC publication and the Heights are referenced in the Library of Congress, so publications both have secondary sources unlike high school papers. IT IS this reference you yourself seem to think makes it inclusive to Wikipaedea. For this reason there should be an inclusion of this character and timeline as the sources are supported for both and origination as stated as the earlier date referenced. Not every book is referenced by its source and even the Bible that has been republished almost an uncountable amount of times does not require the original author to be referenced by a secondary source. I consider your guide like the Overstreet guide as a reference to only commercial publications but not all publications of character or storyline. Spiffiest (talk) 22:42, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
- I moved this conversation back to the Teahouse where it began, partly so there's no question as to whether the advice I give is simply one editor's opinion. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 05:43, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
