editSome tips
editUsing Template:Infobox given name2 is better and has more flexibility as it's suited to names, it also allows for future input easier, such as pronunciation. "People" would be a better title over "Real people". Nonetheless, thanks for adding meanings to some of my name articles. John Cengiz talk 02:03, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for suggestion. i didn't know that template. from now on, i am going to use it (the one you suggested). i am planning to replace existing ones, as well. it looks really neat. i thank you for your contributions to Turkish given names content on Wikipedia. When there are others contributing, it's easier and more meaningful... About the "People" issue, how about the fictional characters? Don't we separate real people and fictional characters?--Polysynaptic (talk) 02:58, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yes we do, but it's accepted on Wikipedia that a title of "Given name" or "People" only lists real living people (check many name pages). A title of "Fictional characters" for fictional characters is enough to distinguish between the two, often there are no fictional characters for many names. Feel free to add meanings to the many names in the Turkish-language surnames category I have added. Mustafa and Ahmad are good examples of name pages I have spent some time on. John Cengiz talk 03:46, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
- ok then. People instdad of Real People. i will try to contribute to surnames. there are some more turkish names, i couldn't add yet. after finishing the work, i will participate in the work on surname.--Polysynaptic (talk) 20:23, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Names
editI saw you are doing some changes with names. First, according to WP:SURNAME a person is to be called by his surname. I saw at least one article in which you replaced a surname by a given name. Second, to the best of my knowledge, neither a surname or a given name should be linked, unless there is a very good reason. Imagine if all people called "George" were linked to George (given name). I am not aware of any exceptions to this, but if the names you are linking/changing are a special exception I am not aware of, please let me know. For now I will start reverting some of the names you linked. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 18:14, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your warning.... I'm not trying to call people with their given names. But I'm changing one of the "He", She", "Surname" or "Given_name" with "Given_name Surname" and linking to the article on given name. I think i misslinked some of them by forgetting to change the "display text". I will be more attentive on this. Again, thanks for you feedback. In the other hand, i saw biography articles in which given names are linked to "Given_name (given name)" articles. So, this is what i learned. If the rules say that articles on given names shouldn't be linked from biography articles then i don't do it. But i don't think such a rule exists. Linking one of the the "George" words in all biography articles of people named "George" to "George (given name)" article is I think something we should accomplish. Interlinking articles is a good thing, isn't it?--Polysynaptic (talk) 18:53, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- While I can't find a clear rule against linking to given names, practice, which represents consensus, is definitely against it. Links to given names are rarely made, and even if they are made, it is only in biographies, where it helps to explain the subject, and no where else. I think the reason is that by policy links should never be made just for "interlinking". All reasons in WP:OVERLINK are reasons which would promote interlinking - yet policy is against them. A link should be made only if it helps readers understand the subject more fully. A link to a given name in an article about beauty queens is tangential to the subject of beauty queens, and does not help to understand it. If you think the practice that given names are not linked should change, maybe you should start a discussion at WT:LINK. --Muhandes (talk) 19:03, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I understand your point. But, in this case, the articles on given names will be orphaned?--Polysynaptic (talk) 19:09, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, that's easy, they are all linked from Turkish names and usually they are interlinked between themselves. --Muhandes (talk) 19:12, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, from now on, i will not link "Geroge"s to "George (given name)"s --Polysynaptic (talk) 19:16, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification
editHi. When you recently edited Altan, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Mongolian and Turkish (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
