Welcome and introduction

edit

Hi, Qazwsx777. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person by golly! And this real person (that would be me), wants to say welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad you've made an account! Thanks for joining; you're on your way to making some great contributions.

Because I've noticed you've just joined, I wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. Any questions are fine, nothing is too silly (we've heard them all). Now, the tips below - hop on them - they should help you begin editing. Best of luck! JoeSmack Talk 16:50, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yessss! You made an account! Totally sweet!
  • Anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people. Besides that, you shouldn't feel nervous or anything about a good-willed contribution. If you're concerned, talk to us.
  • When you're ready, start your first article using the Article Wizard. You don't HAVE to use it, but for your first article it really helps. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references. If you'd like more guidance, you guessed it, talk to us.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page. (You'll want to sign your name with these four tildes ~~~~ when you leave something on a talk page to help know who you are!)

Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

--JoeSmack Talk 16:50, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

P.S. If you just feel like poking around, Wikipedia:Help is a good place to start. :)

Your draft article, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Suffolk Guild of Ringers

edit

Hello Qazwsx777. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Suffolk Guild of Ringers".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Suffolk Guild of Ringers}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Rankersbo (talk) 18:28, 5 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Date formatting/linking years

edit

Hello. Just an FYI, based on MOS:DATE, dates on British articles should be of the format "14 June 2019", not "the 14th of June 2019". Also, years should not be linked. Cheers, Number 57 12:51, 14 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Capitalisation

edit

Hello. When you add a heading like "Notable residents", please make sure the second word is not capitalised. Similarly, people's professions should not be capitalised either.

Also, please don't add people who don't have a Wikipedia article (if they don't have one, they can't be presumed notable), and please just link to them as their article name, rather than adding honorifics etc. Cheers, Number 57 11:35, 10 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Suffolk Task Force

edit

Hi, User:Qazwsx777, have considered joining the Suffolk Task Force? I have been currently working on the Suffolk Electoral Divisions, which I feel could be usefully added to Template:West Suffolk. It would be great if you could take on some of the West Suffolk EDs?Leutha (talk) 10:04, 9 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Regarding Images at Earl's Court tube station

edit

Hello there! Thank you very much and appreciate the effort that you have added images at Earl's Court tube station. However, we tend to not add too many images into the article haha. The present pictures are fine as it is in my opinion. Thank you though, hope you understand that we try not to clutter the page. Alternatively, readers can access the commons gallery. :D Regards, VincentLUFan (talk) (Kenton!) 15:12, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Talk pages

edit

Hi, Thanks for your adding talk pages to articles like Worthing West (electoral division). When you do this, if you could have a quick look at the page and add a rating, it helps to alleviate the huge backlogs at WikiProjects like the Elections and Referendums project. It's usually fairly clear what sort of state an article is in, but if you're not sure, you can leave it to one of the project's assessors. Thanks and keep up the good work, Gazamp (talk) 11:36, 29 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello Qazwsx. Per WP:EL/WP:ELPOINTS, please don't add external links in prose as you did to esawyer.org.uk here. This link could be added to the article either as a url in a reference, or in the external links section. Cheers, Number 57 19:31, 19 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject banner shell

edit

Be careful with WikiProject banner shell. It's known to have problems with some WikiProject templates some of the time. See Template:WikiProject banner shell#Limitations and bugs. I partially undid a change you made to Talk:List of closed railway stations in Norfolk, see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Trains#Template:WikiProject Trains cannot be used inside Template:WikiProject banner shell with some parameters for the report to WikiProject Trains. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:20, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Singapore

edit

Hey. Thank you for your edit to the Taylor bells list. Had totally forgotten about Lahore and Prune, though they're both unringable. Do you mind if I add that Singapore are the only ringable peal of bells in Asia? Guessing you're a fellow ringer like me :-) Bellminsterboy (talk) 21:48, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks bellminsterboy. I would say Dove's guide is the arbiter on whether a tower is ringable and it does list Lahore as such. My understanding is that it's religious tensions in the area which prevent the bells from being rung rather than an inherent problem with the installation though I don't think they've got any ropes on them. If they are later marked as unringable on Dove I'd be happy to support the change then.
I think 'heaviest' is suitable superlative and given that Taylor's is an operational company we should be careful that the article is written in an objective way otherwise it'll become an advert for their work.
Thank you for the work you've done on the article.
In time it would be good to have articles on the other notable bell founders namely, Llewellins & James, Watts family, John Briant, Alfred Bowell, Thomas Osborn etc. Qazwsx777 (talk) 11:52, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey again. Thank you for your comments. As a fellow ringer, and one of fifteen years experience, I quite agree that Dove's Guide are the de facto source. However, as you point out, Lahore have no ropes on them, which does technically make them unringable. I also believe they've not been rung in many decades. I agree re Taylor's list. Good suggestions, though it was William Dobson I was going to start with. Bellminsterboy (talk) 22:15, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
