editDear Sir , I am not sure I am on the right address. So not, I apology. I saw your name on one of the pictures I uploaded in Commons.I let you know I received the aerial picture from the municipal administration so I think they wouldn't have send it if there was a problem and on the other side the image is not crystal clear.yours truly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Loki11 (talk • contribs) 16:44, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hi - I'm sorry, but I don't understand. Please tell me the name of the image you're talking about, or try asking your question here in your native language. Thanks -SCEhardT 18:55, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Geography Bewitched Maps
editHey, loving your hi res photos, but wondering if you could point me in the direction of more of the geography betwitched maps you have a couple of. I'm also interested in how you came to get the hi res copies - do you have access to the originals? 147.8.16.100 (talk) 13:26, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hi - Glad you like them! Unfortunately I don't have any more of the Geography Bewitched maps. They were in a book that I scanned; the resolution I used to scan them actually shows each pixel of the print from the book, so I don't have access to anything higher resolution. If you live in the US, you can pick up a copy for under $7 shipped here. I scanned some other maps from the book but I haven't gotten around to uploading them yet. -SCEhardT 04:31, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Your message
editIf it's non-free content that is the subject of the image, it has to have a non-free image license, You can acknowledge it's a user created image in the sourcing details. If you have further questions on this talk to User:J_Milburn whose helped me with images in a similar situation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:26, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
The file has no mention of a license in it, it was uploaded without one and the uploader has not added one after being informed about it for a week. It was nominated for lacking a license and then deleted when no reaction came. Now you restore it and add a license in place of the uploader - the one you think should be there? Do you do that to all unlicensed derivative work, add a license when the uploader doesn't do it and doesn't care to do it after being informed for an extended period that it's missing? Hekerui (talk) 21:03, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Hekerui - I restored the file because I think it is a valuable addition to Wikipedia. Based on my understanding of the CC-BY-SA license that Wikipedia carries, anyone creating a derivative work has no choice but to license it with the same license.
- I understand the frustration caused by people who don't understand (or just ignore) the licensing, but I think the bigger picture is to try to build and improve Wikipedia. In this case, it looks like the user simply hasn't been on Wikipedia since they uploaded the file.
- I would do this with any work clearly available under a free license. If I had downloaded a copy earlier, I could just as well have uploaded it and tagged it with the cc-by-sa license (instead of doing an admin restore). It was just easier this way. -SCEhardT 01:07, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia Ambassador Program in Houston
editHi! I'm leaving you this message because you're listed as a Wikipedian from Houston. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors from the Houston area, to help with Wikipedia assignments at Texas Southern University. Classes at TSU will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester, and the role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.
Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
If you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone in Houston who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page. Thanks!--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:03, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
MSU Interview
editDear SCEhardt,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.9.34.167 (talk) 20:57, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
Undelete request
editHi. I'd like to request that the page Dr.Twister be undeleted from (12/2005). At this time there is enough additional information and references to meet requirements. I see that there was a page that was started and I would like to use that as reference to make needed changes or updates. Thanks. Jvj24601 (talk) 20:25, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
Suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
editFollowing a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Rio Grande Big Bend Image
editHello--
I am interested in using the image of the Rio Grande in the Big Bend reach for a publication I am putting together. I know you have granted public access, but am curious if you have any larger versions of this photo. We ideally need a larger image for print. We would love to the image at 300 dpi and about 8 1/2 x 11. Thank you so much. The image is hauntingly beautiful.
Thanks, Jen

I'm looking for a higher-resolution version of one of your photos
editHello, I work for a non-profit and we would love to use one of your photos of the Rio Grande in some printed materials - however, we need a higher resolution photo to do so. Would that use be alright with you, and if so do you have a higher-res version available you would be willing to share with us? The photo in questions is here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Big_Bend_National_Park_-_Rio_Grande_riverbed_with_cracked_mud.jpg. For more information about the non-profit, please see www.wildearthguardians.org. You can contact me at tjones@wildearthguardians.org. Thank you for your time,

The file File:Smash Mouth - Walkin' on the Sun.ogg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
chorus heard in sample not proven necessary to contextually signify the whole song. omitting the file not proven yet detrimental to such understanding.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. George Ho (talk) 20:06, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research
editHello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
