DRN

edit

Heya just wanted to let you know I have put my name as a volunteer for DRN. I was on this list many years ago but at the time was probably too busy to do it effectively. I apologise for that. However I would like to try this again and am happy to help out. I am familiar with the rules and many of the relevant policies, I am also on the Ombuds Commission which would hopefully never come up in your cases here. But I am experienced at dealing with disputes. My own specialty is science so may be most helpful in those types of cases. Cheers Scott Thomson (Faendalimas) talk 18:57, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Welcome back to the Wikipedia DR community. (Sorry for the slow response, I've been out of the country and mostly offline for the last five weeks.) I look forward to seeing you around, though I'm pretty much semi-retired at the moment. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 21:45, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Unusual dispute situation

edit

Greetings! I want to resolve a dispute with another editor, but the usual methods (such as Talk pages) won't help. S/He reverted some changes to a small article of mine ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Light_(short_story) ), saying in the edit summary merely that the text "Was much clearer before". However, as I noted in the Talk page that I created for the article ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Star_Light_(short_story) ), "the editor uses only an IP address (128.135.98.200) and has not established a personal Talk page." In the ensuing couple of weeks there has been no activity at the Talk page, so I cannot show any Talk history to use in discussion/mediation. (That's why I titled this section "Unusual dispute situation".) I disapprove of anonymous "hit and run" editing, but (as I noted) I don't want to just play "revert the reversions" (a.k.a. edit war). I want to settle this by discussion, but I can't -- not directly. Can you help me with this, please?

Thanks, Silverhill (talk) 19:46, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry for the slow response, but I've been out of the country and mostly offline for the last five weeks. This is a tough one for me because I happen to agree with the IP editor's changes, which are clearly superior to the text they replaced. The much bigger problem, however, is that your article needs sources to indicate notability, which is the threshold for articles to be included in Wikipedia. Until those are added, the article is subject to deletion or draftification. Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 22:03, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

The Third Option Request

edit

I am personally glad that the request was reverted. I am not at all surprised to hear that it didn't comply with the instructions at the Third Opinion page as you put it, and had a discussion which involved more than two editors. In many ways, the issue really stemmed from edits on the Bob Morley page, where there continues to be an ongoing discussion. I'm not aware of a discussion on WP:RSN currently, though, just ones on Talk:Bob Morley and Talk:Arryn Zech. Historyday01 (talk) 18:01, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Whoops. The discussion is at WP:BLPN, not WP:RSN and I've appended a note to that effect to my earlier notice. Thanks, TransporterMan (TALK) 18:17, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Intervention in Dispute resolution

edit

Hello Sir, kindly intervene in my dispute with user Ekdalian. The link of the DR page is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Dispute_resolution_noticeboard/request. It is related to Baidya article. Thankyou. Anirban Kolkata (talk) 11:04, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your request for dispute resolution should be made at Dispute Resolution Noticeboard after carefully reading and following the instructions there. Requests cannot be made from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Dispute_resolution_noticeboard/request. I do not take private requests for dispute resolution. Arbitration case request

edit

You have been mentioned in a request for arbitration by DTParker1000 - possibly they consider you involved in some way, possibly they just asked you for advice as someone uninvolved (it's not immediately clear to me). Please see Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case#Rio Grande 223. Thryduulf (talk) 22:39, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to participate in a research

edit

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
