False accusation of vandalism

edit

I have been falsely accused by an editor of using multiple IP sites to vandalize a topic. How do I contact the editor to resolve the problem. Bernard Biales — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:197:300:F43F:28E4:7B1E:ADCC:E884 (talk) 05:16, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You can leave them a message at User Talk:Binksternet Rojomoke (talk) 05:23, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Expand article in German page using English page as basis for expansion

edit

There's a useful template for expanding our pages from foreign-language pages (here, German) – {{Expand German|Germanarticletitle}}.

But is there a template I could put on a German page directing German users to the much fuller English page? Ericoides (talk) 08:09, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ericoides: You will need to ask this question at de:Wikipedia:Fragen zur Wikipedia, the DE-WP help desk. Each Wikipedia is managed independently, so they have their own templates and guidelines for using them, and we can't reliably give good advice for other Wikipedias. Frequently they are quite similar to EN-WP, but it's up to each WP community to set their own standards and create things like templates (which they are welcome to import from EN-WP if they wish to). See also de:Wikipedia:Autorenportal, the DE-WP community portal. Murph9000 (talk) 08:32, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Murph, I've posed the question there. Ericoides (talk) 08:41, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And just now received the answer, "Hi, there is no such template on dewiki and I think it would'nt be desired by our community." Ericoides (talk) 09:57, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ericoides, please return to the German HD to see an additional response by YMS, if you've not already. Nyttend (talk) 14:18, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Nyttend, I saw that! Ericoides (talk) 18:23, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello - I'm having some trouble getting the posts on this archive into chronological order. I didn't archive them properly at first, and now the page looks rather jumbled. Please could someone sort this out for me? It would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. :-) Patient Zerotalk 10:28, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Contacting legal: not an emergency

edit

Having run across a potential trademark infringement (http://www.quranwikipedia.com), I figured I'd pass it along to WMF Legal, since presumably they're interested in hearing about other organisations that infringe WMF's trademarks. However, all I can find is stuff like Foundation:Contact us, which appears to be oriented toward people with potential legal claims against WMF, e.g. filing DMCA takedowns or giving notice that a court has ordered a checkuser. WP:Legal doesn't exist, and the account of our most recent general counsel, User:GeoffBrigham (WMF), has been locked because Brigham's apparently no longer with WMF. Any ideas what to do? I don't want to clog up the legal wikimedia.org email queues with a low-priority notification, but I don't want to do nothing at all. Nyttend (talk) 14:16, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Nyttend. Does Foundation:Trademark policy help? --ColinFine (talk) 15:55, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it does. Thanks for the link! I've emailed the address given on that page. Nyttend (talk) 17:12, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How can one get a list of all the files a user has uploaded?

edit

If user Joe Shmoe has uploaded a file to WP, that does not show up in the list of their contributions (Special:Contributions/Joe Shmoe). Is there a way to get a list of all the files Joe Shmoe has uploaded? Thanks. Basemetal 15:18, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Basemetal: Uploads should show as null edits in the contribs link. Perhaps the uploads were made on commons, in which case you would have to look at their commons contribs. Pppery 15:21, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I thought, an N File:LameUpload.png type of line in the contributions when the file LameUpload.png was created as an upload... But I can't find any. I do find them in their contributions at the Commons but I'm pretty sure those files started life on the English WP and were only later transferred to the Commons, so their creations on the English WP should still show up in the contributions. I'll keep looking. Thanks. Basemetal 16:20, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If Joe Shmoe has uploaded an image to en:wp that was then transferred to Commons, the image should have been deleted once it was moved. You need Special:DeletedContributions/Joe Shmoe. If you're not an admin, ask one for help; I'm happy to assist if I'm able. Nyttend (talk) 17:09, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll see if one of the other ways proposed here does what I want, otherwise I'll ask you for help. Basemetal 14:11, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Uploads are shown at Special:ListFiles/Joe Shmoe. To see deleted uploads, look at the upload log. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:05, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And the top of Special:Contributions/Joe Shmoe has an "upload" link to Special:ListFiles/Joe Shmoe. If you have the default "en - English" as language at Special:Preferences then the top of Special:ListFiles/Joe Shmoe uses MediaWiki:Listfiles-summary to display links to Commons uploads and to a log which includes deleted files at Wikipedia. The Commons link has a link which includes deleted files at Commons. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:02, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A whole bunch of ways to go about it, apparently. I haven't tried them yet but one of them (if not all of them) has got to be able to do the job. Thanks a lot guys. Unless someone can think of yet another clever thing I'd say the question has been...

Isn't the following quote a BLP violation? After all, the names of the accused 5 men are given in the article, so the charges against 5 men have, as I understand it, been dismissed, so in effect, the article is repeating unproved allegations that probably won't be pursued anymore in court. Furthermore, the names of the detectives making the claim are not mentioned(nor is the the name of reporter who reported the detectives' claim), so it comes off as a bogus anonymous attack. Anyhow shouldn't we trust less what those detectives claim after the way they apparently did improper interrogations?

"Despite the analysis conducted by the District Attorney's Office, New York City detectives maintained that the defendants had "most likely" been Reyes' accomplices in the assault and rape of Meili."

You can raise this issue at the BLP noticeboard. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:20, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WMF staff accounts

edit

How many accounts (active, dormant, or locked; I don't care) exist with the string (WMF) at the end? I tried a search for intitle:(WMF) with only the user namespace selected, but among its 1,028 results are both userpages and subpages in userspace, e.g. User:AKoval (WMF)/common.js, and counting all of them would be inaccurate, not to mention the fact that this strategy would miss any accounts that don't have userpages. Special:ListUsers naturally allows you to get a list of all users beginning with something, since that merely provides the list with the supplied text at the top, but it doesn't have a feature that would provide you with a list of all usernames concluding with something. Nyttend (talk) 20:02, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Nyttend: It looks like the answer is 520, based on a Quarry search. This only catches those with "(WMF)" explicitly in the username, or those ending "-WMF" as some staff accounts do. — foxj 20:14, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
