WikiProject BELFAST

Scope and Motivation

edit

This WikiProject aims primarily to provide information in consistent format for articles on places in, or related to Belfast. On top of this, it aims to get the main Belfast article to featured status, whilst aiding the maintenance and improvement of the Northern Ireland Portal.

Articles and categories relating to Belfast are extensive and work needs to be/is being done across a multitude of areas. In order to gain the benefits of collaboration, please update this page with any relevant "to do"s.

Recent developments

edit
  • Belfast has been successful as the Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography's collaboration of the month. For anyone who's interested in helping to get the article up to FAC standard, there are many resources and a guide available on the UK Geography Project page.

Major pending tasks

edit
  1. Update all {{infobox Belfast place}} templates to use include the new mapping function.

  2. Add the new {{WikiProject Belfast}} template to all Belfast-related articles' talk pages.
    N.B. - please do not substitute the template, as any future changes to the template will not be updated automatically. On top of this, a substituted inclusion will not appear on the Belfast list of links that provides a gauge for the size of the WikiProject and ultimately all articles within the WikiProject (and does not include any non-relevant pages). Do not continue to use the old version {{WPBelfast}}

  3. Add new {{Belfast history}} navigational template to the top of all Belfast-history related articles.

  • Completely overhaul this page into a more coherent format.
    • Insert templates on talk pages of Northern Ireland-related articles referring to new MOS (yet to be created) page.
    • Create project space Manual of Style article and template.
    • Implement a guidance template to direct users to all the relevant pages (as per WP:WPF)
  • Implement a "Series on Belfast" template along the lines of {{Christianity}}

Example: {{WikiProject Belfast| class=??? | importance=???}}

The following values may be used for the parameters. Please note that you must type them exactly as below as they are case-sensitive:

edit

Legend

edit
Article progress grading scheme
  FA Reserved exclusively for articles that have received "Featured article" status after peer review, and meet the current criteria for featured articles. Example: Algorithm
  A The article provides a well-written, reasonably clear and complete description of the topic, as described in How to write a Great Article. It includes a well-written introduction to the topic, and an appropriate series of headings to break up the article. It should have sufficient external literature references, preferably from textbooks or peer-reviewed papers rather than websites. It contain illustrations where apropriate (with no copyright problems). It should be at the stage where it meets the criteria for or is a Good article. Example: Ammonia (as of Oct 2005).
B The article is "almost there" but it may be missing one of the following: references, balance of content, or an important section. Alternatively, the English may need a comprehensive rewrite to make it flow, or it may need to be edited to follow standard English spelling and conventions. For maths articles, articles which are overly technical and fail to explain the basics would often end up here. Example: Antarctica (as of Oct 2005) is a good start but contains too many lists, and it needs more prose content & references.
Start The article has a good amount of content, but it is still weak in certain areas, and may lack a table. For example an article on Africa might cover the geography well, but be weak on history and culture. Example: Arithmetic (as of Oct 2005).
Stub The article is either a very short article or a stub that will need a lot of work to bring it to A-Class level, although there may be a significant amount of material in the article.

Need: The article's importance, regardless of its quality

Top Subject is a must-have for a print encyclopaedia
High Subject contributes a depth of knowledge
Mid Subject fills in more minor details
Low Subject is peripheral knowledge, possibly trivial

Quality: current article quality as per the grading scheme

  FA Featured article
  A Article is well written, reasonably complete and referenced; possible featured article candidate.
  GA This is a good article
B We have a decent article, but it needs further editing
Start Significant cleanup or expansion needed.
Stub Article missing or miserable, or a stub.
