Volume 1, Issue 10	7 July 2007	About the Newsletter
Introduction The editors of the newsletter would like to give the most sincere apologies for the lengthy delay of delivery. We hope you understand that these editors were busy with improving various articles and being busy with real life. Right now, as some of you may know, something that may cause controversy is being negotiated. Because of the sensitive nature of this and the efforts to keep the newsletter NPOV, it will not be disclosed. But on top of all that, this issue has experienced a first: there were more contributors to this issue than any other one, notably Krimpet and Polaron. A thunderous round of applause for these users! As this issue has been collecting dust a bit longer than usual, more time has been put into it, so we hope you enjoy it! Please note that delivery will be much earlier than usual, due to Live Earth.
Kentucky subproject promoted By vishwin60 As per a discussion on the page linked below, the Kentucky subproject has been promoted from a task force back to a project. Project news Nominations and votes are needed for August's selected article and selected picture. The creation of new state highway subprojects are strongly discouraged. Instead, consider helping to fix the four projects currently demoted to task forces - Nevada, South Carolina, Utah, and Alabama. Article Improvement Drive The current U.S. Roads Article Improvement Drive article is Interstate 35. Last collaboration was: U.S. Route 191. Join the contest to receive a barnstar!
Deletion debates An archive of all previous debates. Closed Although there weren't more recent debates, there were, however, two debates that were fairly recent. First, a deletion review of County Road 702 (Palm Beach County, Florida) has resulted in a speedy overturn, because there was overwhelming consensus that it was invalid speedy deletion. In the realm of AFD, the article Kew Gardens Interchange was nominated. It has since been kept due to the presence of reliable sources.
AID restructuring By vishwin60 The Article Improvement Drive has recently been totally restructured. A one article system has now been enforced, with a list of Interstate articles that have cleanup or stub tags on them. The next article that is on the list will be featured after the current article has been satisfactorily cleaned up and/or expanded to B-class. The editor who contributes the most to the article's cleanup will receive a barnstar! Sources: WP:USRD/AID
Featured member: vishwin60 (→zelzany - fish) has been a Wikipedia editor since September 18, 2006, and ever since, he has been one of USRD's biggest contributors. With over 8000 edits, vishwin60 has aided WP:PASH and several other subprojects. Reverting vandalism and template work had been one of his most significant fields, and the leadership he brings to the project is greatly appricated. Thank you, vishwin60, for all of your hard work! GA status By JohnnyAlbert10 There was a lot of WP:GA news this week, negative and positive. After lasting 22 days as a GA, New Jersey Route 18 was demoted to B-class on June 28, due to several prose problems. The article has not yet been taken to a good article review. But there was some positive news. Following it's first unsuccessful GA nomination, New Jersey Route 33 was promoted to GA-status on June 12. State updates WP:CASH A backlog that was formed on February 3 has finally been cleared—the routeboxca2 backlog has finally cleared on 23:47, 18 June 2007 (UTC). Kudos to everyone who helped out with clearing it! WP:MDRD Heads up, there are still routeboxes at User:Vishwin60/Roads/MD to fix. Please make sure that these routeboxes are up to the standards set out at WP:USRD/INNA. WP:PASH By JohnnyAlbert10 Interstate 476 still needs a reviewer to review the article for any deficiencies before heading to FAC. Pennsylvania Route 39 is undergoing a featured article candidacy and nominations for next month's featured article are needed. Additionally, maps will be created for every route in the Commonwealth.
Notability discussion currently collecting dust By Krimpet Since last April, work has been underway to distill community consensus on the notability of highways into a new proposed notability guideline. While a fairly stable consensus has been reached so far, discussion has stalled somewhat in the past few weeks. Your input at the corresponding talk page would be greatly valued! From the Editors Be part of the turnaround... now become part of the solution! Become active in highways again. Let's save the articles from being inactive and destroyed. The editors of the newsletter would like to hear from you, the reader. What do you like about the current format? What should be changed? Removed? Added? Your comments are needed. Due to many of the distributors not being as available over the summer, publication will be decreased in the next few months. Lastly, remember that this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue released on July 21. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!
