  • Current name: Gray Porpoise (talk · contribs · logs · block log)
  • Requested name: UberScienceNerd (rename user)
  • Reason: Good day. Some individuals (in an out-of-Wikipedia universe) have commented that my present username seems rather quaint, and revising my perspectives, I see why. Out of mere preference, if it does not inconvenience the encyclopedia or its bureaucrats, may I have my username changed to UberScienceNerd? The only name change that I have undergone in the past had been due to a <strikeout>mispelling</strikeout> misspelling. Nope, it should be okay. Users are allowed request renames here, regardless of how many edits they have. The only reason which a request is likely to be declined for is if a user is requesting a rename to a completely different username and there only edit is to request it. So, this request should be okay. Cheers, Qst 17:15, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Just one question: a bout preventing impersonators, the now old account it is not deleted, right? Tasc0 02:08, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The old account no longer exists so could theoretically be created. However, I suspect the old name may be too similar to your new name for Wikipedia's software to allow it in this case. Try loging out and creating an account called Tasco 0 - one of two things will happen: either (1) you won't be able to and will then know that no one else can or, (2) it will allow it but then you'll have created the account yourself so it again it won't be possible for anyone to impersonate you. WjBscribe 02:20, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just created it to avoid impersonators. Thanks for your help. And just for the record, this is a multiple account and I did not created it for sockpuppetry : ).--Tasc0 02:28, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: If your name is changed here (Which I assume it will be per Unified Login), could you redirect its English equivalent to your userpage to minimize confusion and make it easier for users to contact you? -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 01:21, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see what any issue would be here. He wants the name “לערי ריינהארט” - it‘s a simple copy-paste. And redirects are created automatically during renames, so unless you delete them when renaming, that’s a non-issue. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 10:53, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: I'm conscious that renames to non-latin usernames have been declined in the past - see [3], [4] - and a related discussion at the Bureaucrat noticeboard. I'm a little reluctant to unilaterally change the approach to these and find Cecropia's argument quite persuasive. Given the inconvenience likely to be caused to other users, are renames to non-latin names desirable? WjBscribe 18:59, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I generally agree with you. The only counter argument is single user login which may or may not happen. Secretlondon (talk) 20:52, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have no objection to this. Unicode fonts are daily more common; copy-and-paste is easy enough. Surely Gangleri will be considerate enough to make the transliteration clear (perhaps in a signature or some such). This is a hard-working and longtime contributor who might just as well have registered his username in Hebrew to begin with (new usernames, contradictorily, are allowed to contain non-Latin characters). Refusing to change his name now seems purposelessly punitive. — Dan | talk 08:02, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I read the Help files on that and it's why I originally used a pseudonym. Since then, though, I feel uncomfortable about it. Using my real name here won't enormously increase my exposure on the web: for years, I've used my real name on my website and on screen writing and gay fiction sites. Now I also use it on my Wordpress blog, my photo site, and my slide sharing site. It seems unreasonable that visitors to any of those places should be shielded from my activities here -- or that people here shouldn't know that I'm the same person who appears elsewhere. Tuckdogg → Gromlakh

  • Current name: Tuckdogg (talk · contribs · logs · block log)
  • Requested name: Gromlakh (rename user)
  • Reason: Multiple:
    • Standardizing Internet logins across multiple sites.
    • Username "Tuckdogg" is something I frankly haven't used for years anywhere else, but I happened to have a Wikipedia account under this name so I started editing in earnest with it instead of creating a new account like I should have.
    • I have encountered other "Tuckdogg"s who take this name on other sites; "Gromlakh" seems to be fairly unique to me (it's my primary character's name on Ancient Anguish).
    • Personal preference; I don't care for the name "Tuckdogg" at all anymore and I'm trying to phase it out.

I could always create a new account, but I have a fair number of edits under this name and have become known on WP:MMA. If this request is granted I also expect to put a note on my user page explaining the name change to minimize unnecessary confusion over who I am. Lemon-lime → ペコペコ

Bureaucrat note: What language is that in? Where else do you use that name? Secretlondon (talk) 21:27, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's Japanese onomatopoeia for hungry. I use it various places on the internet (I'd rather not specify for anonymity's sake) and I've got a request going on Commons as well for the change. I'd be fine with PecoPeco if you don't like the Japanese characters, but I would prefer the real thing.Lemon-lime (talk) 03:51, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I'd prefer PecoPeco as non latin characters cause problems with some users, and it's not as if you are actually editing on the Japanese wiki. Secretlondon (talk) 19:52, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As you wish. I was planning on using a signature with the Latin characters to solve that problem, but feel free to what you think is best. (Speaking of which, I should be an editor on the Japanese Wiki. I don't know why I am not. :-) Thanks for the nudge.) Lemon-lime (talk) 21:00, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am now a member of Wikipedia Japan, if that makes any difference... username: ペコペコ. Lemon-lime (talk) 23:02, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the mass of information, but now I'm ペコペコ over at commons, so at this point, I feel like ペコペコ is the only way to stay consistent. Thanks! Lemon-lime (talk) 20:27, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Danielle1983 → Gibraltar07

Neutral comment Are you sure you want that name? User:Laos got blocked because Laos is the name of a country. I got scared that people would block me saying that Congo is a country. Gibraltar07 is a bit different from Gibraltar. It's up to you. Maybe Gibraltar Road or Danielle Gibraltar? Or just start a new account as that's what 'crats often suggest if you only have 1-2 days of edits like you have. You can be perfectly honest by just making a note on your user page what your new username is. Congolese fufu (talk) 05:34, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As a side note, the name you request in the header is not the name you have listed in the requested name field, but it is the one in the rename link. Which do you want to be renamed to? I (talk) 05:44, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanx for the advice but i would like to rename to Gibbo007 if thats possible? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danielle1983 (talkcontribs) 14:38, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Metal to the Max! → -The Great One-

Bureaucrat note: I think remembering how many dots you have before and after the name may be a hastle for those trying to contact you and it may also be a nuisance for you whenever you sign in. Are you sure this is the name you want? WjBscribe 02:34, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Im sure, i did 5 dots. If theres no other user with the user The Great One thyen i would be happy to just use that.--Metal to the Max! 05:26, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: The Great One and The great one are both taken (how'd that happen?), but both meet the requirements for usurpation. —Random832 14:58, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: There haven't always been restrictions on choosing usernames that differed only in capitalisation from existing names. Secretlondon (talk) 19:50, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well if those two got to have the same username minus a small differ, then mine stands out ALOT more with the dots, therefore being noticable.--Metal to the Max! 11:02, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
{{notdone}}, I think WJBscribe is right about the dots, and I recommend usurpation. -- Andre (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
