Ramanan Ramakrishnan is a Malaysian politician who has served as Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Minister Ewon Benedick since December 2023,[1] and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sungai Buloh since November 2022.[2]

He served as the Chairman of the Special Committee of the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA) from April 2023[3] to February 2024.[4] He is a member and Deputy Information Chief of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the PH coalition and was a member of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He was also the eldest grandson of the late Devaki Krishnan, the first woman elected to public office in the Malaysian history.[5][6]

Under Ramanan's leadership, MITRA disbursed RM100 million to the Malaysian Indian community. Marking the first time in Malaysia history to fully utilities the fund for the Indian communities benefit. [7] MITRA received a rating of "low risk" by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.[8]

PKKI 2024[9] is the first indian cooperatives conference to be held in over 100 years since the cooperative movement began in Malaysia. "I intend to hear directly about the issues raised by Indian community cooperatives and Kuskop will make every effort to help resolve the issues raised," he said in emphasising the ministry's commitment to support the community. The importance of the cooperative movement was also highlighted. "It cannot be denied that the cooperative movement has become one of the key contributors in benefiting the socio-economic welfare of the community," he said. [10]
