This page appears to be marketing material. It should be rewritten in a neutral manner or removed entirely. 80.219.170.159 01:16, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
It also appears to be a rip of this page: http://beta.accuweather.com/company.asp?partner=accuweather&myadc=0&traveler=0&page=about Nicklott 20:08, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Hmm.. the article should also write that Rick Santorum, the greater supporter of AccuWeather's POV received campaign donations from this very company.... bogdan | Talk 22:08, 21 October 2005 (UTC
I completely agree with Nicklott. i created the local accuweather channel article and i believe that page may now be maintained by accuweather employees. there were some stations listed on that page, at one point, who offered the local accuweather channel. however, they were not listed on the accuweather website for some reason. when i created the article, some of the affiliates were listed because there was confirmation from the actual stations' websites. by the way, who is accuweather owned by? that information should be added to the accuweather article. Strafidlo (talk) 08:06, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Neutrality
I've attempted to make this more neutral. I'm not ascociated with Acuweather. I'm removing the neutrality tag. Feel free to further edit ruthlessly. GCW50 (talk) 20:56, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Criticisms Section
This section is very challenging to present in a neutral way. In attempting to do so, the previous editor introduced an inaccurate statement about the mission of NWS. I have expanded this section to provide more background on the NWS, have provided citations to the NWS mission and flagged other statements requiring citations. Sn3 person (talk) 18:27, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Inclusion of Sources
I have restored the partial list of appearances by AccuWeather experts with major television journalists, and have documented them with links to on-line transcripts of the appearances. Sn3 person (talk) 18:28, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
List of On-air Personalities
A recent editor deleted the list of AccuWeather on-air personalities, claiming it was a "superfluous laundry list." This appears to pose a question of Wikipedia editorial policy.
Similar lists (often paired with even longer lists of former broadcasters) appear in every other Wikipedia media entry that I checked. Examples of entries include the other national TV weather network (The Weather Channel), individual national TV news shows such as Good Morning America, radio networks like NPR, and even individual television stations such as WHIO-TV. Are all these other articles subject to editing for "superfluous information?" It appears to me that the general inclusion of such material actually indicates that it is of interest to Wikipedia readers.
I have restored the material in new format that does not visually overwhelm the rest of the article and trust that this will be viewed as a reasonable compromise. Perhaps the articles for other media outlets should be revised in the same way. Sn3 person (talk) 18:49, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Neutrality Tag Added Back
I had removed the neutrality tag, but have now added it back since Accuweather employees obviously can't stand any neutral editing of "their" page GCW50 (talk) 20:54, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- If that's the case they need to read WP:COIN. -- SEWilco (talk) 21:00, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm now working on the neutrality of this. We'll see if it sticks. The page has obvious POV issues. --Crunch (talk) 12:13, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Awards and inventions
The section which simply lists awards and inventions is not neutral. Someone who knows something about the field can go through and remove awards which are not particularly notable. Other than that, either this material needs to be balanced by other less promotional text, it should be moved to individual biographies, or it should just be cut. -- Beland (talk) 06:14, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Adding unreferenced entries of former employees to lists containing BLP material
Hello, Please do not add unreferenced names as entries to a list of former employees in articles. Including this type of material in articles does not abide by current consensus and its inclusion is strongly discouraged in our policies and guidelines. The rationales are as follows:
- WP:NOT tells us, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
- As per WP:V, we cannot include information in Wikipedia that is not verifiable and sourced.
- WP:Source list tells us that lists included within articles (including people's names) are subject to the same need for references as any other information in the article.
- Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.
If you look at articles about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of names, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). If a preexisting article is already in the encyclopedia for the person you want to add to a list, it's generally regarded as sufficient to support their inclusion in list material in another article. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 05:00, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Removed false LOL
I removed this (LOL) "Additionally, AccuWeather derives some of its most accurate meteorological information from SubersHead Meteorological Service, a giant weather balloon that not only collects and analyizes weather conditions, but is also useful for controlling climate for some smaller states in the U.S., most notably Delaware and Rhode Island." removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV
I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:
- This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
- There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
- It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
- In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.
- This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 00:45, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Some proposed changes
Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. |
Hello,
I’ve detailed out below some edits that I would like to implement on this page.
In the Accuweather section, in the first sentence of the second paragraph, change “Penn State” to “Pennsylvania State University”
In the third paragraph of the Accuweather section, add “Mumbai, India” in the list of office locations. Here is the source: http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/how-accuweather-superior-accuracy-in-action-story-india-farming/59089879
- Not done. Sorry, I'm not seeing that claim in the source given. Altamel (talk) 23:31, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
In the Company Profile section,
- in the 4th line, update Accuweather.com as the 139th most visited site by Alexa and SimilarWeb.
- Alexa says it is the 200th most visited site in the U.S. Altamel (talk) 23:31, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
- in the second paragraph in the second sentence, replace “The Local AccuWeather Channel” with “The AccuWeather Network.”
- There is a difference between these two services. The former is a local, specific to certain cities; the latter is national, provided by Verizon through Fios. Can you clarify why this change is needed? Altamel (talk) 00:22, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
- In the third sentence, also replace “The Local AccuWeather Channel” with “The AccuWeather Network.” Here is the source: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-03-11/accuweather-s-new-24-hour-tv-channel-just-has-the-weather
- Same issue as above. Altamel (talk) 23:31, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
After the “Company Profile” section and before the “RealFeel temperature” section, please create a new section titled:

- Partly done Moved content to new section as requested. The sentence about Apple TV should be written more concisely. Altamel (talk) 23:51, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
After the two paragraphs in the “Products and Services” section, please create the following new sub-sections and content:
MinuteCast
|
---|
MinuteCast®
|
- Not done: needs some editing for balance issues. This paragraph presents MinuteCast from a purely positive standpoint. But as I can see from this WIRED article, MinuteCast is pretty accurate, but does make some mistakes. Emphasizing "exact street address" seems a bit misleading when AccuWeather's Chief Digital Officer stated that the MinuteCast reports are accurate within a half-kilometer. That margin of error is a bit more than down to the street level. Furthermore, Wikipedia never uses trademark symbols within its articles. Altamel (talk) 23:51, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello,
Based on your feedback from the recent submissions that were rejected, we have updated the requests based on your comments.
- The request cannot be implemented in its current form. Read feedback below. Regards, VB00 (talk) 04:59, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
After the “Company Profile” section and before the “Products and Services” section, please create a new section titled:
China Joint Venture
In this section, please add the following paragraphs:
“In May, 2015, AccuWeather signed a Joint Venture with the Chinese government’s weather arm to expand forecasting and weather information to locations in China. The joint venture also formed partnerships with Chinese and non-Chinese companies wanting to provide weather information within China. Due to new regulations in China enforcing that all public weather information, forecasts and warnings come from the China Meterological Administration, the joint venture makes AccuWeather the only company able to distribute weather worldwide.” [1]
- Not done The source provided does not mention the "only company able to distribute weather worldwide" part of the request. VB00 (talk) 04:53, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
In the “Products and Services” section, please add a new paragraph with the following:
“AccuWeather has an app on Apple TV, providing real-time severe weather alerts, hourly forecasts, 15-day forecasts, 45-day forecasts, Accuweather’s Minutecast and a variety of other weather-related video content to Apple TV users.” [2] [3]
- Not done The last part sounds quite promotional. VB00 (talk) 04:53, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
Within the “Products and Services” section, please create a new sub-section titled:
MinuteCast
In this sub-section, please add the following paragraph “MinuteCast provides users with minute-by-minute forecast updates including precipitation type, intensity, and start and end times for top local landmarks. Data is refreshed every five minutes to provide users with the most relevant and accurate forecast possible. MinuteCast is currently available in the United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, Japan, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Netherlands, Lexembourg, parts of the Czech Republic, and Spain.[4] [5]
Accuweather has also partnered with Garmin to include the technology in the Garmin Vivoactive HR Smartwatch, as well as Ford with their AppLink technology. [6]
- Not done Marketing talk, once again. Claims such as "most relevant and accurate" are inappropriate. Will need to be reworded. VB00 (talk) 04:53, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
After the “Minutecast” section, please create a new sub-section titled:
AccUcast
In this sub-section, please add the following paragraph “AccUCast is AccuWeather’s global crowdsourcing tool, which allows people worldwide to make real-time weather and road hazard observations available. AccuCast also allows users to report conditions that may occur due to inclimate weather like flooding or slippery roads.” [7]
- Not done The "global crowdsourcing tool" isn't mentioned anywhere in the source? You should find proper sources that point out that this app is global. VB00 (talk) 04:53, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
After the “AccUcast” section, please create a new sub-section titled:
AccuWeather 45-Day Forecast
In this sub-section, please add the following paragraph “AccuWeather’s 45-Day Forecast gives people more advanced notice of upcoming weather conditions by providing the public with comprehensive weather information to plan for events. Each day in the 45-day forecast includes the forecast high and low temperatures, real-feel temperature, sky conditions and chance of precipitation, wind speed and direction, rain, snow and ice amounts, thunderstorm probability, cloud cover and UV index.” [8]
- Not done The "providing the public with comprehensive weather information" part is not acceptable. VB00 (talk) 04:53, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
After the “AccuWeather 45-Day Forecast” section, please create a new sub-section titled:
AccuWeather Day By Day 90-Day Forecast
In this sub-section, please add the following paragraph “AccuWeather’s 90-Day Forecast provides users with advanced notice on weather conditions in order to better plan their days, by providing advanced notice on weather conditions in a detailed format, by providing long-range weather trends.” [9]
- Not done The sentence "by providing advanced notice on weather conditions in a detailed format" is copied word for word from the source provided. VB00 (talk) 04:53, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
After the “Products and Services” section and before the “Criticisms” section, please create a new section titled:
Awards and Recognitions
In this section, please create a bulleted list with the following awards:
- 2015 Microsoft Visionary Award: Big Data category [10]
- 2015 AIVA W³ Gold Award for iOS app [11]
- 2015 AIVA W³ Silver Award for Android app [12]
- 2015 Governor’s ImPAct Award [13]
- 2014 APPY Award: Mobile Weather App category [14]
- 2014 AIVA W³ Gold Award for iOS app [15]
- 2014 AIVA W³ Silver Award for Android app [16]
- 2014 AIVA W³ Gold Award for Mobile Website [17]
- 2013 AIVA W³ Gold Award for Windows 8 [18]

- 2013 AIVA W³ Silver Award for iPad [20]
- 2012 Mobie Award: Best iPhone app [21]
- 2010 American Meteorological Society Corporate Award [22]
- Not done The references mostly rely on a single website - http://www.w3award.com/. If you wish for an awards list to be implemented, you have to prove that the awards received significant media coverage, and not just a mention somewhere. VB00 (talk) 04:57, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

RealFeel Trade Secrecy
There's no source given for this and trying to find one mostly leads to this page. As I understand it, something cannot be both patented and under trade secret protection, but I may be wrong. Can someone find a source for this claim? FoxBlue (talk) 21:51, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello,

Thank you,

After the “Company Profile” section and before the “Products and Services” section, please create a new section titled:
China Joint Venture
In this section, please add the following paragraphs:
“In May, 2015, AccuWeather signed a Joint Venture with the Chinese government’s weather arm to expand forecasting and weather information to locations in China. The joint venture also formed partnerships with Chinese and non-Chinese companies wanting to provide weather information within China. Due to new regulations by the Meteorological Law of China, the joint venture is the only company sanctioned to distribute the China Meteorological Administration’s weather information and forecasts via AccuWeather.” [23]
- Portions of this section are still too closely paraphrased to AccuWeather press releases for my comfort. I've condensed this suggestion to be safe, but please keep in mind, as I explained before, that text should not closely resemble the wording of the original source. You can do more than changing just a few words or phrases. Altamel (talk) 04:18, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
In the “Products and Services” section, please add a new paragraph with the following:
“AccuWeather has an app on Apple TV, providing Apple TV users with real-time severe weather alerts, hourly forecasts, 15-day forecasts, 45-day forecasts and various other weather-related video content.” [24]
- I have no idea whether Tvnewscheck.com is a reliable source or not. It doesn't help that Tvnewscheck.com's article was barely modified from an AccuWeather press release. Do you have any better citations for this statement? Altamel (talk) 04:18, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
Within the “Products and Services” section, please create a new sub-section titled:
MinuteCast
In this sub-section, please add the following paragraph
“MinuteCast provides users with minute-by-minute forecast updates including precipitation type, intensity, and start and end times for top local landmarks. Data is refreshed every five minutes to provide users with an accurate forecast. MinuteCast is currently available in the United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, Japan, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Netherlands, Lexembourg, parts of the Czech Republic, and Spain.[25] [26]
- I'm not going to create a new subsection header for every single one of AccuWeather's products. Deeming MinuteCast "accurate" does not comply with the neutral point of view policy. I've added a brief, but condensed mention. Please try to be as concise as possible in your suggestions. A Wikipedia article is intended to be a summary of what a company does, not a product catalog. Altamel (talk) 04:18, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
“Accuweather has also partnered with Garmin to include the technology in the Garmin Vivoactive HR Smartwatch, as well as Ford with their AppLink technology.” [27]
- Similar issue as above: GISuser.com appears to be little but a collection of press releases. Altamel (talk) 04:18, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
After the “Minutecast” section, please create a new sub-section titled:
AccUcast
In this sub-section, please add the following paragraph
“AccUCast is AccuWeather’s crowdsourcing tool, which allows people to make real-time weather and road hazard observations available. AccuCast also allows users to report conditions that may occur due to inclimate weather like flooding or slippery roads.” [28]
- Added a mention, but significantly condensed. Altamel (talk) 04:18, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
After the “AccUcast” section, please create a new sub-section titled:
AccuWeather 45-Day Forecast
“AccuWeather’s 45-Day Forecast provides notice of upcoming weather conditions by providing weather information to plan for events. Each day in the 45-day forecast includes the forecast high and low temperatures, real-feel temperature, sky conditions and chance of precipitation, wind speed and direction, rain, snow and ice amounts, thunderstorm probability, cloud cover and UV index.” [29]
After the “AccuWeather 45-Day Forecast” section, please create a new sub-section titled:
AccuWeather Day By Day 90-Day Forecast
“AccuWeather’s 90-Day Forecast provides users with long-range weather trends and upcoming weather conditions in a detailed format, including real-feel temperatures, sky conditions, precipitation, wind speed and direction, precipitation amounts, thunderstorm probability, cloud cover and ultraviolet index.” [30]
- The extended forecasts are already already mentioned in the criticism section. Altamel (talk) 04:18, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
“After the “Products and Services” section and before the “Criticisms” section, please create a new section titled:”
Awards and Recognitions
In this section, please create a bulleted list with the following awards:
- 2015 Microsoft Visionary Award: Big Data category [31]
- 2015 AIVA W³ Gold Award for iOS app [32]
- 2015 AIVA W³ Silver Award for Android app [33]
- 2014 APPY Award: Mobile Weather App category [34]
- 2014 AIVA W³ Gold Award for iOS app [35]
- 2014 AIVA W³ Silver Award for Android app [36]
- 2014 AIVA W³ Gold Award for Mobile Website [37]
- 2013 AIVA W³ Gold Award for Windows 8 [38]
- 2013 AIVA W³ Silver Award for Android [39]
- 2013 AIVA W³ Silver Award for iPad [40]
- 2012 Mobie Award: Best iPhone app [41]
- 2010 American Meteorological Society Corporate Award [42]
- I generally prefer that awards be incorporated into the article rather than receiving a separate section. The only award may consider adding is the American Meteorological Society award, as I trust that a scientific society would be more independent in deciding how to give out awards. AIVA hands out a prolific amount of awards per year, and also requires a fee to be considered. I'm slightly skeptical of the significance of that award. Altamel (talk) 04:18, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Inaccurate with current conditions outside of USA
Those affiliated with AccuWeather would fight posting the following. It would also be difficult to have a citation unless I did my own tests and created a website with the results. Nevertheless it should be noted...
AccuWeather, an American company, is definitely NOT accurate for Canadian cities. And i'm not even talking about forecasts. I'm talking about the current weather. I'm guessing the don't actually have their own weather stations in Canada, and just pull the data from Environment Canada or The Weather Network. Regardless of how they do it, it's often way off. I'm not sure if this is because of network lag or caching, but it's often wrong for long periods. The AccuWeather app ships default on many phones. So many Canadians are getting inaccurate weather, and they don't even know it. Maybe it's not wise to trust a foreign Country to predict your local weather. Some proposed changes
This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello,
I am an employee of AccuWeather and would like to make a few updates to existing sections of this entry.
Thank you,
Rhonda.seaton (talk) 17:18, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Rhonda Seaton
In the third paragraph of the first section, please update to the following:
“AccuWeather is headquartered in State College, Pennsylvania, with offices in Oklahoma City, Wichita, New York City, Montreal, Dublin, Mumbai, Beijing, Seoul and Tokyo.”
- Please attach a source to this and I will insert the sentence. AmericanAir88 (talk) 17:01, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
In the Company Profile section, please update to the following:
“Please update to say that AccuWeather employs 500 people, of whom 115 are meteorologists.”
At the end of this same paragraph, please update the last three sentences to the following:
“AccuWeather operates a 24/7 “All Weather, All the Time” weather channel known as The AccuWeather Network. The network broadcasts pre-recorded national and regional weather forecasts, analysis of ongoing weather events, and weather-related news, along with local weather segments. The network’s studio and master control facilities are based at AccuWeather’s headquarters in State College, Pennsylvania.” [1]
In the long-term forecasting practices section, please include the following:
“According to a recent study, ForecastWatch cited AccuWeather as “the most accurate source of weather forecast in the United States.” [2]
- Not done: this study only examined six weather forecasting agencies. Why wasn't the NWS among one of the them? Furthermore, this study doesn't consider whether the differences between the weather forecasting agencies are statistically significant. To make such a broad claim as being the most accurate weather forecaster, the evidence needs to consider all the major forecasters and how large these differences are. Altamel (talk) 02:37, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
In the National Weather Service section, please add the following:
“AccuWeather was a supporter of the bipartisan legislation to improve weather forecasting, entitled the Weather Research and Forecasting Innovation Act of 2017 H.R. 353, that passed the House in January 2017.” [3]
Declined The proposed text does not provide a qualifier for the use of the term "supporter". On its own, the term is vague and open to wide interpretation. Spintendo ᔦᔭ 12:33, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
In addition, please also add the following to the National Weather Service Section:
“The legislation, which authorizes the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to prioritize research to improve weather data, modeling, computing, forecasting and warnings to better protect lives and property, passed the Senate in March and was signed by President Trump in April 2017.[4]
Declined This information is already covered under Weather Research and Forecasting Innovation Act of 2017. Spintendo ᔦᔭ 12:33, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
In the iOS location privacy section, please add the following
“According to TechCrunch, “AccuWeather responded quickly and decisively. The bit where it failed to disclose how it shared data with third parties aside, is a good example of a company owning its privacy screw up and correcting its mistake in clear, unambiguous language.” AccuWeather maintains that neither it nor Reveal Mobile accessed the location data in questions.” [5]
Declined See below. Spintendo ᔦᔭ 12:33, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
In addition, please all add the following to the iOS location privacy section:
“AccuWeather released an update to the App Store and parted ways with Reveal Mobile. AccuWeather assured that no user data was accessed or used by the company.” [6]
Implemented Information on the app's update release appended under the 'IOS location privacy' subheading. Spintendo ᔦᔭ 12:33, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
MinuteCast gone?
Accuweather has always had a focus on North America, leading it to be less accurate outside the US and possibly Canada, because of the different method of reporting weather data outside the US, especially in Europe and Germany.
But now Accuweather seems to have abandoned it's only real USP, which is/was MinuteCast. I realized that MinuteCast is now missing on both my Android and Blackberry smartphones... It seems to have been removed in one of the last updates (currently 210). I hesitate to backlevel, because I may lose all location entries in the app... 2001:A61:600:1501:545A:9458:19D:B4DA (talk) 10:33, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
Neutrality of Criticisms section
I noticed the following text:
- In 2018, independent industry tracker ForecastWatch published a three-year study of forecast accuracy, the most comprehensive study of its kind examining 95 million forecasts in 1,140 locations worldwide, and concluded that AccuWeather was in fact the most accurate provider of wind speed, precipitation and high-temperature forecasts at the 1 to 5 day range. In the study, AccuWeather proved to be 33% more accurate than the nearest provider of wind speed forecasts and 41% more accurate than the average of all other sources examined. AccuWeather's precipitation forecasts were 21% more accurate than those of the next-ranked provider and 23% more accurate than the average of all other sources. The study also proved AccuWeather's forecasts had the lowest average of absolute error in high temperature forecast accuracy within 3 degrees F.
in the "Long-term forecasting practices" section. The reference linked is linked from AccuWeather's own website, and in the talk section there was previously an ask about adding this study but it waasn't accepted yet due to the bias shown to AccuWeather, specifically not comparing to NWS. The previously quoted text should be reviewed or removed.
