Genre

[edit]

So, is their genre "electronica" or "hip-hop"? Make up your mind, article. 82.93.10.238 (talk) 14:48, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed page move

[edit]

May I suggest moving this page to Stereo MCs? Tim Ivorson 2 July 2005 10:48 (UTC)

Surely this should be Stereo MC's? Leaving alone for the moment America's loose grip of the English language :p Stereo MC's is the bands name so surely that should be the title of this entry? 82.39.188.161 17:15, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Their album art is unambiguous. Also, the rule against an apostrophe here is surely prescriptive and fairly new. 24.52.124.254 (talk) 14:29, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Where was the band formed?

[edit]

Where was the band formed? Strong's 1996 The Wee Rock Discography says it was Clapham. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:22, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, and I have before me the print copy of the 2000 print (5th edition) of The Great Rock Discography,[1] which also states Clapham. The recent edit to change this to Brixton is without a reference, and seemingly incorrect. I would suggest that this is probably not the only error in the recent changes made to the text. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 20:32, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Midiocre1, could you possibly please explain? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:31, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Martin , i meant to put Clapham / Brixton because it said Nottingham which is not correct , technically it was Clapham but we really developed more in Brixton
Nick Here from Stereo Mc's .there were a lot of other things that were incorrect also working on adding some things as Ive never been on here before. Midiocre1 (talk) 21:39, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Midiocre1. Many thanks for your prompt reply. So you are Nick Hallam from the band? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:44, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am 2A00:23C6:DC0A:7601:A5E7:8092:E47A:1454 (talk) 21:45, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It might be easier for everyone if you edit only when you are logged into your account. Is there any reason why you couldn't do that? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:54, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i dont know what you mean ?as i said i havent been on here before but i read it and it had so many errors i felt compelled to join Midiocre1 (talk) 21:57, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at you last post above (21:45, 17 February 2024), it's just an IP address. So you weren't logged into your account? It tells us that you are using BT? So that we always know it's you editing, it's a good idea if you could log into your account User:Midiocre1? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:03, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ok just did nt realise i wasnt logged in , is that you that just changed it back to just clapham. and we didnt mix Music by Madona we jus remixed Frozen Midiocre1 (talk) 22:06, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, no probs. Yes, that's right, I changed it back to Clapham. That's what the printed book sources say (see mine and Derek's comments above). Do you have any other reliable source(s) that have "Brixton"? Martinevans123 (talk) 22:11, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
well Rob and me lived in Clapham then we bought a place in Brixton hence the Claham /Brixton as we were work in progress. I guess we would know really as were there Midiocre1 (talk) 22:13, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
re Derek saying i suggest ........... well there were incorrect details elsewhere Midiocre1 (talk) 22:15, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure we can sort them out. But there are a couple of things I should mention.... Martinevans123 (talk) 22:19, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
? tbh. i dont have time to spend correcting things all the time. but we get promoters copying stuff off here and i have to keep correcting them as they are getting it wrong, usually we send them our biog but sometimes they forget and go on here . if you need to put info that may not be correct then i willjust leave it but it willpossible be in correct ....; remember any info in ref books has just come from an interview with Rob or me , that doesnt mean its accurate as detailsgo missing in interviews very regularly Midiocre1 (talk) 22:25, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Theres no point in me correcting info if someone just goes and changes it back , thats whay=t i think Midiocre1 (talk) 22:27, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are quite a lot of policies/ rules at Wikipedia.... We can't actually know for certain that you are Nick from the band. We've got no way of proving it - you could be anyone, just claiming to be a band member. I'm not saying you are an imposter, just that you could be, for whatever reason. However, if you are who you say you are, we've got another issue, which is Conflict of interest - you have a close connection with the subject of the article. Perhaps the closest. So your edits need to be scrutinised quite carefully. Does that make sense? Martinevans123 (talk) 22:44, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
lol. ok. well i cant really see the point in this then. why would someone pretend to be me
to change details? I also added Cath Coffey , my partners place of birth last time
i guess this really serves no useful purpose if its incorrect
for instance previously it said we recorded our first LP with Cath coffey and Owen If. , Owen joined after we had made that record and Cath we didnt meet until we started recording Supernatural and we had parted company with Cesare before that , quite big details to me
also the Jungke brothers connection really had no beari g on any success of Supernatural as Afrika had no input on Elevate My Mind which was the track that achieved some success in U.S.
I added remixes like the one we did for Tricky , there were many more we did also
I just wanted to make sure it was accurate but i know now it wont be so i will stepback ,
by the way we didnt start our label connected with Terranova it was with one person who used to be in Terranova Midiocre1 (talk) 22:54, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your efforts, Nick. It's very rare for the people covered in Wikipedia articles to actually try and improve them. In any case, we have to assume good faith and assume that you are Nick. I appreciate that you are in a tricky position. You will probably see things that are factually wrong and will want to correct them. But we are stuck with having to use reliable sources, "WP:RS", that is material that has been officially published somewhere. So hopefully, although you know a lot of stuff accurately, you might also know where it's been published. That way we can actually add it and correct things that you know are wrong. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 23:00, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
p.s. did you see the discussion thread above this one? Should the band name have an apostrophe or not? I guess you might know that! Martinevans123 (talk) 23:03, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It SHOULD have an apostrophe , there was brief time we had a manager about 10 years ago who said it was grammatically incorrect and we changed it for an LP which was a disaster as it totally messed up all our social media amd metadata
Stereo Mc's
it is grammatically incorrect but that was our perogative. we changed it back Midiocre1 (talk) 23:07, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Thanks for confirming! By the way... I am not very knowledgeable about the band or it's history. I just know that "Step It Up" is one of the finest dance records ever made. So thank you. lol. Martinevans123 (talk) 23:12, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Martin Midiocre1 (talk) 23:14, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to, we could take each of the issues you have mentioned above, in a separate discussion thread, and see if we can fix them somehow. From my point of view, there's no rush. But you may be too valuable a contributor to just ignore this opportunity. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 23:17, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alternatively we could just work through the article one paragraph/section at a time. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:53, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. just dont have time at the moment , i will try and go through it and be prepared when we do but hard to get time for a month or so
let me see Midiocre1 (talk) 18:56, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Please accept that, in the mean time, other editors may wish to remove material that is unsourced, or change details that do not align with reliable sources. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:08, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Martin i guess thats their perogative , still seems weird to me but what do i know ! Will contact you when i have some time. Midiocre1 (talk) 19:28, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
