merger

[edit]

Wheelie bin is essentially a freestanding fork of this article and I believe this article would be improved by merging it here. Thoughts? Beeblebrox (talk) 00:29, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I also merged "Wheelie bin urinal" as it was only a paragraph. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:58, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Garbage Can History

[edit]

There should be an article on the history of the garbage can. 63.3.2.130 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 04:22, 11 February 2012 (UTC).[reply]

I'm not familiar with the codes here to do large editing, but the image shown in the "In-ground waste containers" section is a home/office kitchen-type trash can, neither outdoor nor in-ground. Another image should be used for that section. Please refer to the following pages:

"Bin" is a bad term, use "Garbage bin".

[edit]

"Bin" is a fanny pack - an idiom with conflicting meanings elsewhere. It shouldn't be used colloquially throughout the article. Since there seems to be no shared informal word for trash can, I propose "garbage bin" - as it makes it clear to all users of English. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.62.117.228 (talk) 22:20, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Over board on the slang used for this item

[edit]

Common terms are dustbin, rubbish bin, litter bin, garbage can, trash can, trash bin, wheelie bin, dumpster, waste basket, waste paper basket, waste receptacle, container bin, bin, kitchen bin, barrel and trash barrel" Come on guys this is ridiculous. There should only be 1-4 different names that we list as alternative common names to a trash can, not 16. I am removing some as this is ridiculous. Dumpster

[edit]

<<Some common terms are dustbin, garbage can, trash can and dumpster.>>

I've removed "dumpster", as a dumpster is a different thing from what gets referred to as a "trash can", "garbage can" or "dustbin". 2602:306:3653:8440:29F3:60F9:8AE8:F2EA (talk) 01:30, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wheelie Bin Article Needed

[edit]

I came here on a redirect from Wheelie Bin and this article is useless for that enquiry; maybe someone knowledgeable could create an article on Wheelie Bins, since they are so distinct from old-fashioned metal Dustbins ( and are used in 82% of Britain ). All I know is they were invented in Germany. Claverhouse (talk) 16:30, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article links to itself

[edit]

In the "See also" section, there is a link to Pedal bin, which redirects back to this very article. That link is unnecessary. 178.148.87.73 (talk) 22:51, 17 March 2021 (UTC) 178.148.87.73 (talk) 22:55, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 Done — see Special:Diff/1012726726. Thanks! DanCherek (talk) 00:03, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
