Add subgenres section

[edit]

Shouldn't the template have a subgenre section (e.g. Template:Heavymetal)?--Darknus823 (talk) 16:28, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What happened to all the music?

[edit]

Where's all the subgenres and world music at on the table? Why is it deleted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.8.232.2 (talk) 18:45, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey tuf-kat, I can barely see the top link here. It is blue on dark blue! --Yath 07:17, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Individual artists

[edit]

I've been seeing this template show up on individual artist pages, which is not where I think it belongs. Caerwine 16:26, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hip hop outside the United States?

[edit]

It bothers me that the title of this list is World hip hop and the list includes the United States, but the title links to Hip hop outside the United States. The title link is either an easter egg link or US centric. I think that we should either remove the United States from the list and retitle the template "Hip hop outside the United States" or move the link to Hip hop outside the United States from the title to the body of the template. Any thoughts? Tim Ivorson 11:41, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest I don't think this article should exist. It was originally called "World hip hop", but hip hop is by definition a world thing these days. I'd support its deletion.--Urthogie 12:33, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's one solution. I haven't read Hip hop outside the United States and I haven't decided whether it should exist. Tim Ivorson 13:26, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Consistency

[edit]

Native American hip hop is listed in a form different from that of the other entries. Can anything be done about that? Should the practice of refering to a scene here by its territory only extend to national and continental scenes? Tim Ivorson 13:26, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think Native American should be treated like Asia or Africa for our purposes(not to say its a complete equivelant). What do you think?--Urthogie 15:21, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We could leave it as it is, but I'd prefer not to do that unless somebody rationalises it; we could remove it, on the grounds that it's like the ommitted American scenes; we could put it in brackets after the United States entry; or we could find some other name for it. I think I'd prefer to put it in brackets after United States. Tim Ivorson 16:10, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think geography matters so much as national identity, though. There is, to a certain extent, a European identity, an African identity, and an American indian identity. Just something to consider, --Urthogie 17:10, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think you're correct. I'd like to change the style to "African - Albanian - ...Native American..." Tim Ivorson 17:39, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What I'm doing so far is bolding anything thats not a country. So I'm about to bold Native American and Arab.--Urthogie 18:15, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What do you think? Tim Ivorson 18:42, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
World hip hop

African - Albanian - Algerian - American - Angolan - Arabian - Asian - Australian - Austrian - Azerbaijani - Bahraini - Belgian - Bosnian - Botswana - Brazilian - British - Bulgarian - Canadian - Cape Verdean - Chinese - Congolese - Cuban - Czech - Danish - Dominican - Dutch - Egyptian - European - Filipino - Finnish - French - Gambian - German - Ghanaian - Greek - Greenlandic - Guinean - Hong Kong - Hungarian - Icelandic - Indian - Indonesian - Irish - Israeli - Italian - Ivoirian - Japanese - Kenyan - Korean - Latin American - Lebanese - Malagasy - Malaysian - Malian - Mexican - Moroccan - Native American - Nepalese - New Zealand - Nigerian - Nigerien - Norwegian - Polish - Portugese - Puerto Rican - Romanian - Russian - Rwandan - Senegalese - Serbian - Singaporean - Slovak - Slovenian - Somali - South African - Spanish - Swedish - Swiss - Taiwanese - Tanzanian - Togolese - Turkish - Ugandan - Ukrainian - Zimbabwean

excellent--Urthogie 19:45, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. Bold provides emphasis. Embolden continents and multinational regions, sure, but not "nations". Native American is fine being in the list but should be formatted like the other "countries".
I've also removed "Asian" and "European" hip hop which are red links. These things don't exist. There's no contigious European hip hop scene; we're an array of cultures and speak different languages. French hip hop, for example, is very different from British. That's why those links were red and would stay red. --kingboyk 09:55, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I agree with Yath, above. The text "Hip hop outside the United States" is totally unreadable, and nearly invisible altogether. Michael Z. 2006-05-23 18:44 Z

The problem was circumvented and has recurred since Yath commented. I don't understand how we got round it. My attempt to repeat the response didn't work. I propose that we change the title and remove the links to American hip hop and Native American hip hop, as below. Tim Ivorson 2006-05-24
Hip hop outside the United States

African - Albanian - Algerian - Angolan - Arabian - Asian - Australian - Austrian - Azerbaijani - Bahraini - Belgian - Bosnian and Herzegovinan - Botswana - Brazilian - British - Bulgarian - Canadian - Cape Verdean - Chinese - Congolese - Cuban - Czech - Danish - Dominican - Dutch - Egyptian - European - Filipino - Finnish - French - Gambian - German - Ghanaian - Greek - Greenlandic - Guinean - Hong Kong - Hungarian - Icelandic - Indian - Indonesian - Irish - Israeli - Italian - Ivoirian - Japanese - Kenyan - Korean - Latin American - Lebanese - Malagasy - Malaysian - Malian - Mexican - Moroccan - Nepalese - New Zealand - Nigerian - Nigerien - Norwegian - Polish - Portugese - Puerto Rican - Romanian - Russian - Rwandan - Senegalese - Serbian - Singaporean - Slovak - Slovenian - Somali - South African - Spanish - Swedish - Swiss - Taiwanese - Tanzanian - Togolese - Turkish - Ugandan - Ukrainian - Zimbabwean

I don't think the article should even exist for hip hop outside the US. world hip hop seems best.--Urthogie 13:58, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nigerien

[edit]

Aren't Nigeria (Nigerian) and Niger (Nigerien) different? Tim Ivorson 2006-05-25

Ah. I suck at geography. I'll revert myself.--Urthogie 12:52, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Outside US

[edit]

I must say I don't understand why this was changed to hip hop outside the US. US/not US is not an encyclopedic way to organize things. Tuf-Kat 22:18, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See my suggestion to redirect it on the article's talk page.--Urthogie 08:47, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Where is Croatian hip-hop article?

[edit]

How come there is no article about Croatian hip-hop? All EX-YU states have their hip-hop article except Croatia. Here are the names of some Croatian hip-hop artists and bands: Elemental, TBF, Nered, Bolesna braća, Stoka, Shorty... I think that Croatian hip-hop article is necessary. MR.CRO95 (talk) 13:28, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I removed two redlinks in this hip hop template because they are useless and lead nowhere. Another colleague reinstated them back (Chilean hip hop and Bolivian hip hop) claiming these redlinks actually encourage creation of hip hop pages on Chile and Bolivia. But is that the way of encouraging articles, i.e. inserting redlinks in hope of pages being activated? Could I add other redlink countries in the template to encourage people to create further pages? I can suggest a few redlink countries: Algeria, Armenia, Croatia, Jamaica, Puerto Rico... all these countries need hip hop articles actually werldwayd (talk) 04:16, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They are actually very useful, as they spur the creation of articles. All those nations do have hip hop scenes, as you may know. Badagnani (talk) 04:32, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeh I agree, redlinks for useful articles should be spammed where ever they can be in my opinion as it creates more chance that someone who is knowledgable and wants to put the time and effort in, actually makes the article. CartelCacique (talk) 17:52, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Note: WP:RED does state "However when considering adding red links to lists, disambiguation pages or templates, editors are encouraged to write the article first, and use the wikiproject or user spaces to keep track of unwritten articles". So although you can add redlinks, it's very conceivable that another editor will pop in and remove them when you are not looking, and give an edit summary like "links removed as per WP:RED" - I've seen that happen before.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:03, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
With the immense amount of knowledge between us, we can easily begin stubs for all those articles. Why don't we do it? I have some information on hip hop scenes in some of those countries. Badagnani (talk) 21:06, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merged with Template:Hip hop genres into this template

[edit]

I merged {{Hip hop genres}} into this template, consulting {{Jazz}}. It was inefficient to use of these templates. -- Kookyunii (talk) 21:59, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Difference between subgenre and fusion genre?

[edit]

I'm no rap expert, but just added Dirty rap to the subgenre section. I'm not sure if it would be considered a fusion genre - what's the difference and who decides?Timtempleton (talk) 00:03, 25 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Add Emo hip hop

[edit]

As Emo hip hop has it's own article, it deserves to be on a list that includes all hip hop fusion genres. SuperLuigi22 (talk) 13:27, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No more portal

[edit]

The portal was deleted 20 April. I removed the red link from the template. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 11:55, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hip Hop Cleanup

[edit]

Could someone please make sure that this template has all genres (even those that don't have pages) that fit under hip hop and none that don't? I'd also like each genre to be put under the Hip hop category and the template in all of the genres. Don't forget to message me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:C7:C201:C640:F47E:5B35:8067:73AA (talk) 20:25, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone please:

  • make a subgroup called Rap rock (under General in Fusion genres), pothole it, and put Punk rap, Rap metal (with Trap metal grouped under it), and Rapcore in it?

Does this navbox cause eye strain for anyone else? I use dark mode and experience pain everytime I come across this thing. It looks like the all-white blocks were added back in 2020. Would anyone mind if we switched it up? gobonobo + c 04:11, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
