[edit]The Fried calamari for Acalamari
Thanks for semi-protecting User talk:12.206.33.125. That blocked IP kept cursing at me on his talk page, which is something I really hate. Since you semi-protected the talk page, I am, once again, awarding you the fried calamari. NHRHS2010 talk 02:56, 7 November 2007 (UTC) |
- You're welcome, and thanks. :) Don't let what vandals say upset you; just ignore it. They're just trying to get attention. Acalamari 02:59, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
The User:Natalie Erin vandal/socks
[edit]Considering the lengthy history of harassment and other nonsense crap made by various user names made to User:Natalie Erin and also at some occasions at yourself, I had little doubt that those inappropriate/inflammatory accounts were coming from the same user - like as soon as the semi-protection of her user page was lifted, the awful vandalism started again. [1] Those four accounts are at least suspected sockpuppets I can guarantee considering one account, that was blocked long before those four had the Acalamari would like to see Natalie Erin's ---- user name, the first instance was User:Acalamari would like to see Natalie Erin's "inner angle".
I've completely lost track of all the socks - but I can almost bet that there are several more undetected socks for the same editor that in fact User:My words can laugh made not be the puppetmaster targeting Natalie. Earlier this year, not only I made a long-term abuse report I've also made a checkuser request to see whether the 129.xxx (and possibly the 69.xxx) anon accounts were from the same user but it was concluded as inconclusive even though I have an impression that it was the same individual with probably no end in sight. JForget 18:49, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation, but I think the puppetmaster might actually be a user called "Owner of boats" (see their edits), as the harassment began after that account was created (and "My words can laugh" appears to have been created after "Owner of boats" was created). Just a possibilty anyway. Acalamari 18:56, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Another RfA Spaming
[edit]Protection conflict
[edit]Yep. I wonder when it will expire... Odd thing is that yours expires 1 min after mine (on a different day, but...) Prodego talk 00:49, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- That was a reference to the old block system, were you here long enough to see that [system]? Prodego talk 00:59, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- It used to be users could be blocked multiple times, and whichever block was shortest was the active one. So it was really easy to shorten blocks, in fact, sometimes 1 second blocks were used to unblock people (which is why you might see references to them. You are making me feel old here! Back in my day we didn't have no fancy 'block options'. No sireeee! Prodego talk 01:08, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- The notice is pretty nice. I like the block options more though, anon-only, account creation, email (ok, I still haven't gotten to use this one). Prodego talk 01:17, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- When I became an admin there was no deleted contributions, no block options, no autoblock locater, no cascading protection (but there was semi-protection), no deleted diffs (obviously), no image undeletion, no 'oversight' permission, no unblock-en-l... Goes on and on. Though the advantage of this is that I got to make this edit, which is by far the best edit I have ever made. Prodego talk 01:32, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

OhanaUnited's RfA
[edit]Thanks for voting at my RfA. Unfortunately, the result stands at 51 support, 21 oppose and 7 neutral which means that I did not succeed. As many expressed their appreciation of my works in featured portals during my RfA, I will fill up the vacuum position of director in featured portal candidates to maintain the standards of featured contents in addition to my active role in Good articles. Have a great day. OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:10, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Wallowing in my RfA: This time it's personal...
My sincere thanks for your support in my request for adminship, which ended with 51 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. Doubtless it was an error to put one of the government-bred race of pigmen in any position of authority, but I hope your confidence in me proves justified. Even a man pure of heart and who says his prayers at night can become a were-boar when the moon is full and sweet. Fortunately, I'm neither a were-pig nor pure of heart so this doesn't appear to be an imminent danger to Wikipedia for the moment. Fortunate as well because were-pig hooves are hell on keyboards and none too dexterous with computer mice. If ever I should offend, act uncivil, misstep, overstep, annoy, violate policy, or attempt to topple the fascist leadership of Wikipedia, please let me know so I can improve my behaviour and/or my aim. I am not an animal; I am an admin. And, of course, if there is any way in which I can help you on Wikipedia, please do not hesitate to ask me. Despite my japes, I am indeed dedicated to protecting and serving Wikipedia to the best of my foppish and impudent abilities. I will strive to be an admirable admin, shiny and cool, reasonable and beatific. Pigmanwhat?/trail 05:34, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

My RfA
[edit]Yes, I know many users who had more than one RfAs before getting the mop, like ST47 had 4 RfAs (even though he/she claims 5), and Jaranda had 7. The opposes hurt my feelings, especially Daniel's and Agueybana's opposes. And I'm glad that the Kate McAuliffe vandal was not around when I had an RfA because I am sure that he will make a bad-faith oppose on my RfA. NHRHS2010 talk 00:15, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

- Don't feel bad. :) I've been contributing to Wikipedia using satellite and dial-up for over a year now, and reading it for longer. I just noticed it now when you fixed it lol. ~*Grin*~ Ariel♥Gold 19:38, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Thankyou for supporting my successful rfa which closed with 58 supports. If i am honest i am rather humbled by the unanimous support and i hope to live up to everyones expectations. If you ever need any help, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks again. Woodym555 15:05, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Dearest Acalamari,
Thank you for your participation in my RFA, which closed successfully with 137 supports, 22 opposes, and 5 neutrals after almost snowballing because of ageism accusations (just kidding ;) ). Your kind words of support and attempts to fix your mistake are very much appreciated and I look forward to proving you right (not about the ageism). I would like to give special thanks to The_undertow and Phoenix-wiki for their co-nominations. Thank you again and best regards.

thanks.Re:Tellervo
[edit]Nice to hear from you! Honestly, I am not doing well. I have been harassed by two editors, and I am rather at a loss whether to continue editing Wikipedia or not. The first one of my harassers made mincemeat of my work at an article about the Orthodox Church of Finland. The second one did not like the manner I transliterated Indian terms and names. I have decided to stop taking part in articles which deal with religious topics. But somehow I must get some faith and energy in order to continue in Wikipedia! - I am very happy and surprised about your amazing amount of edits. How have you been able to make them all? And, - what a social life you have!! Tellervo 13:23, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry to hear about your conflicts. :( I suppose sometimes a rest from Wikipedia is a big help when things get tough here. Regarding my edits, well, I guess it's because I've had time to make them; I've been editing a lot less recently due to more important events in real life. With my social life, what were you referring to? :) Anyway, I'm glad to see you're still around and doing well. Acalamari 00:30, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- Your social life is all your contacts and communications, especially with the young ladies on this forum, and also the barnstars you so generously award! You are really a caring and supporting person. I hope there were more of your kind in Wikipedia!:) --Tellervo (talk) 11:37, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Rfa Oppose bot
[edit]Thanks, from all of us undergoing RfAs :-) Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry 18:52, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- All of you taking RfA are welcome. :) There's been a few of those "oppose bots" recently that leave trolling, bad-faith opposes on all active RfAs. That's so far the first one I've blocked. Acalamari 18:56, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- I think I found one of the sources of the "oppose bots" here. Hope this will be of great help :D AngelOfSadness talk 18:59, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip; I've blocked the account that created them all, as well as the socks themselves. Good work. :) Acalamari 19:03, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- No problemo. Hopefully now the nominees of Rfa can have a peaceful nomination time. AngelOfSadness talk 19:09, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- This has been a long-standing, ongoing issue, with names created as a take on Eddie's name, and the whole "bot" thing, there are many, many of them, Eddie may be able to help compile a list if you want, as I think he's the one most familiar with them. Ariel♥Gold 19:05, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I think the issue goes back as far as this time last year, just with different users' being harassed. Judging by the edits that recent sock made, and from past information I've been provided with, I believe it's a sock of the "Kate McAuliffe vandal" (who created the" has a crush on Kate McAuliffe" usernames; original account unknown), who has been doing this for about a year now. I blocked Agüeybaná's previous account name, Boricuaeddie, when this same vandal recreated that account, and used it to create sockpuppets (see the log). Acalamari 19:16, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yep I saw that immediately when you did it, as the editor caused quite a fuss, and people thought it was Eddie. I think before this, most editors did not realize that when changing usernames, the old name becomes available to be re-created, so in a way, I guess something good came out of it, knowledge, lol. Ariel♥Gold 19:37, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Oh I know that Agüeybaná didn't use his old account name to create those accounts. :) He had been impersonted; I informed him of what happened after I blocked it. In fact, a similar thing happened to me when I was impersonted on the Spanish and Irish Wikipedias. The "Acalamari" accounts there were renamed, and I re-created them so I would have control over them. On the bright side, I now have the "in other languages" tab on the toolbar on my userpage! Heheheheh! Acalamari 19:42, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Can't something be done to find out who the hell is doing this and block him once and for all? --Agüeybaná 19:44, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, that would be nice. And no I never thought that you thought it was Eddie, lol. Just that others did. It was quite the afternoon, lol. Ariel♥Gold 19:49, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- I know Politics rule was responsible for one of the Boricuaeddie accounts, not sure if he's done any of the others though. Ryan Postlethwaite 19:50, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- I don't believe this is Politics rule; if it was him, then the checkuser run the other day would have picked up the previous "oppose bots". Acalamari 20:07, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- I know the initial origin of the Kate McAuliffe vandal. It is an IP address: 67.81.102.11. This is the most known origin of the "Kate McAuliffe" vandal. Please let me know if there are anymore Kate McAuliffe vandal related incident, as I go to the same school as that person. NHRHS2010 talk 23:46, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Is your name like A calamari? Is the 'A' a negation as to imply that you are not squid? the_undertow talk 23:20, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- The "A" at the front is to separate the name from the word "calamari", to increase the username's stand in alphabetical order, and because I liked the sound and look. :) It's also pronounced "Ac-ala-mari" as opposed to "A-calamari". Also see User:Acalamari#Origin of Acalamari for other information about my username if you're interested. Thanks. Acalamari 23:27, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- I see you have a pronunciation. Is this for that little voice in your head or do you really say this thing out loud? I like the idea of the alphabetical value. Im thinking that an_undertow really should have been my first choice. the_undertow talk 23:57, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I doubt many people say "Acalamari" outside Wikipedia. The pronunciation is mainly how I prounounce it when I read the name. With the alphabetical listing, that is good; I am listed high on here, and in Category:Wikipedia administrators, as well as in other categories. If I'd called myself "@calamari" or "~Acalamari", I'd probably be listed even higher. :) Acalamari 00:06, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

UsernameHardBlocked
[edit]I am a fairly new admin. When is it appropriate to use such a block as you did with a user I'd blocked? Bearian 00:15, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- I assume you meant that user called "LETS FÚCK UP WOKIPEIDA" that I changed your block of? My apologies, I actually meant to leave a courtesy note on your talk page about that earlier. Anyway; usernames should be hardblocked when it's a blatant violation of the username policy, such as the one I mentioned above. A username created in good-faith, but still violates the username policy, such as a company name or something like "Asftetsfed" (the second on is a random-sequence username, but they're normally created in good-faith) should be softblocked. I hope this helps. Any attack-usernames should be hardblocked as well. Acalamari 00:20, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info. Bearian 00:27, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- You're welcome, but remember, if you're not totally sure about a hard-block, just do a soft-block instead, or, if necessary, not block at all. Don't worry, usernames blocks can be tricky. Acalamari 00:29, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism?
[edit]"Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did to Wikipedia in culture. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Acalamari"
My addition to the page was in no way vandalism. It was completely relevent, and it should not have been removed just because you might be butthurt over the site's potentially offensive content. Would YOU please refrain from making unconstructive edits to others edits to Wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alyssaftllz (talk • contribs)
- Kindly see Wikipedia:Civility and Wikipedia:No personal attacks. Then regarding ED, please see Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/MONGO. Thank you. Acalamari 20:15, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Please note that Wikipedia's vandalism page states "Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism." My edits were not vandalism, please leave them alone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alyssaftllz (talk • contribs)
- I am aware of that, but adding the Encyclopedia Dramatica to Wikipedia, whether a link or just plain text, is not helpful in any way, and is disruptive; please do not re-add it to "Wikipedia in culture". Again, please see the Arbitration case I linked to. Thank you. Acalamari 21:34, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the link. However, adding a reference to Encyclopedia Dramatica is not disruptive in any way. If you're concerned about the appropriateness of it, then you should also note Wikipedia's lax image rules, allowing genialia, etc. to be posted in numerous situations. Ever heard of "wikiporn"? LURK MOAR Alyssaftllz 21:44, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, it is disruptive, and should be removed on-sight: it's unencyclopedic information and irrelevant; the images of genitals however, in their respective articles are encyclopedic and relevant to Wikipedia. Text or links to the Encyclopedia Dramatica does not help Wikipedia in any way, while the images do. Also, several Wikipedians have been harassed by Encyclopedia Dramatica trolls, and some user have even been driven off the project. The article on the Encyclopedia Dramatica was deleted as well, for being non-notable, I believe. Finally, you're welcome for the link. Acalamari 21:49, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- It has been proven to the satisfaction of this community that adding the Encyclopedia Dramatica to Wikipedia, whether as a link or just plain text, is in fact highly disruptive. As for genitalia: Wikipedia is not and will not be censored. --Orange Mike 21:50, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Since the section I added Encyclopedia Dramatica to concerned parodies of wikipedia and wikipedia in pop culture, it was HIGHLY relevent. You're saying I shouldn't post that because it's offensive? A lot of people would be offended by pictures of penises, cum, breasts, etc., but they are posted because they too are relevant. Deleting content because it is offensive IS censorship.
- Alyssaftllz 00:24, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- The Encyclopedia Dramatica is not a parody of Wikipedia: it is a site attacking Wikipedia and its contributors. Uncyclopedia is a parody, I believe, and a joke site; from my knowledge, it doesn't attack Wikipedia, and hasn't driven anyone off this project. As the Encyclopedia Dramatica is an attack site and not a parody, it is irrelavant to that section, and will be removed on-sight. I see that you have added the text again: please don't do this again; it's been explained to you why adding the site in is disruptive. Acalamari 00:35, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- ED attacks EVERYTHING, so don't consider yourselves exclusive. Anyway, I can see that this is pointless, so bye. :)
- Alyssaftllz 03:03, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed, but the disruption that site has caused Wikipedia just by its existence and members is unacceptable (i.e. some users leaving, meaningless discussions over the site, etc). There is no encyclopedic reason to link to the site anywhere, or to mention it at all in the mainspace. Acalamari 03:07, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

- Probably because a lot of users still don't know about the school yet. :) It's only been around since July 8, and active since September 9 when Ryan Postlethwaite moved it from his userspace into the project-space. I
spamgive the link to new admins if they haven' been given one already (in fact, even if they've already been given a link to it, I give another one anyway). It's becoming more popular fortunately. It might even by handy for admins who aren't new to read the school. I've told many new users that I wish it had existed when I first became an admin! :) -- Acalamari (talk) 18:53, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

NAS
[edit]Hi Acalamari. Thanks for your note on my talk page about the NAS.[3] I just started trolling the list at Wikipedia:Successful_adminship_candidacies to plug the NAS with the following post
*Congratulations on becoming a new admin! To learn a little about how to work your new tools, check out the New admin school. If you like, you can use the userbox {{User:EVula/Userboxes/admin since|year=2007|month=11|day=22}} on your user page to display how long you have been an admin. Best!
I asked Deskana to give NAS a plug in his/her posts to the new admins.-- Jreferee t/c 05:59, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, heh, good posting! I use my own userspace template, User:Acalamari/RFAcongratulations, to give to new admins, though I sometimes write a personal posting depending on the situation. My template gives them the Admins' T-shirt and a link to the school. Even if a new admin has been given more than one link to the school, I think that's a good sign because if more people recommend it, more people will visit the school. Good one for asking Deskana to include the school in his posting to new admins; I know that at least one bureaucrat, Warofdreams, includes a link to the school in his postings to new admins.
