Welcome!

Hello, Bds69, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome! — Σxplicit 04:46, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First of all no need to call me a douche. It just makes you look like a douche since you clearly do not know that every wikipedia page needs a reference. No reference, I add the unref tag. Simple as that. Don't give excuses like a page doesn't need one. Every page needs one. I only saw that page, I am not going to analyze every single one of the articles you made. If other articles you made have no references, you better add a ref on them as well. Second of all yes, that link you gave me could be added. So add it and be done with it. Next time consider being nicer to other wikipedians as we all mean no harm and in fact just want to help. Cheers. Calaka (talk) 02:00, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Listen. I welcome all new contributions. In fact I applaud you for adding the articles on the African championships! I am very happy for them I truly am and I am glad you came around here on Wikipedia with good intentions! But calling me a douche was not nice and there was no need for it. Furthermore I am tagging the articles to be helpful, not to put you down. Tags do not mean the article is bad (and I did not critique you in any way), it is a reminder for the article needs work to ensure that the article stays and does not get deleted. What would you have preferred, if I added a tag that requires the article get deleted (trust me, everyone on Wikipedia hates an article that doesn't have a reference and would rather it get deleted than stay there). The unref tag is there to ensure that the article doesn't get deleted and gives the author (i.e. you) a reminder to go around and eventually add the reference.
In addition to this why do you think I (along with everyone else!) want a reference? How do I know you are not making it all up? How do I know if there even was such an African championship in 1968 for example? There are a lot of people that vandalise wikipedia and write incorrect information to get a laugh out of it. This doesn't look good on Wikipedia. Hence a reference (that proves what you add to wikipedia is true) ensures that you are legitimate and mean well for Wikipedia.
Also just because there was "no internet" in the 1970's doesn't mean there wont be references for the subject. (Second hand sources are fine!)
Finally you say you want me to add the reference. Before you gave me that link I would not have known where to begin. I have never heard of the championship before you added it on Wikipedia so there would have been no place to begin.
I hope you stay on Wikipedia and continue to improve it. Do not accuse me of not contributing to Wikipedia. You know nothing about me if you say such a statement. I am not the best Wikipedian out there (far from it) but every single individual that contributes to this site (in any way) matters. Even you. Kind regards.Calaka (talk) 04:43, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well first of all, thank you for putting up the ref.
Secondly please have a look at these: Cortisporin - Geniculum - Acute prostatitis - Anterior Spinal Syndrome - Central cord Syndrome - Somatoparaphrenia - Reproductive tract infection - Paratonia - Paraphasia - Twenty nail dystrophy - Genital ulcer - Geschwind syndrome - CDC28 protein kinase - Protease-sparing regimen - Treatment IND - Acrodysostosis - Alveolar hydatid disease - Environmental dependence syndrome - Motion blindness - Motion induced blindness - Perforated ulcer - self-inflicted wound - Ablepharon macrostomia syndrome - Axel Holst - Zimmerman-Laband syndrome - Rosselli-Gulienetti syndrome - Zunich-Kaye syndrome - Zazam Sheriff Phillips syndrome - Zonular cataract and nystagmus - Zori Stalker Williams syndrome - Yunis-Varon syndrome- 3m syndrome - 3c syndrome - Renal dysplasia-limb defects syndrome - Ulerythema - Umbilical cord ulceration and intestinal atresia - Uncombable hair syndrome - Upington disease - Urban-Rogers-Meyer syndrome - Yusho Disease - Young's syndrome - Young Simpson syndrome - Yves Brunsvick - Roger Cousinet - Jan Władysław Dawid - Adolphe Ferrière
Really? You found no contributions? Click on some of the above (search the ones that are not directly linked, I can't be bothered linking all of them) and have a look at their history and tell me that I made no contributions to Wikipedia.
I will ask you again: Please do not accuse me (or anyone else for that matter) of not contributing to Wikipedia. Frankly I do not care what you say but if you say those kinds of things to other people that are a bit more sensitive on Wikipedia they will get offended and leave (and never come back). Wikipedias greatest resource is volunteers (like you and me). So do not insult others and accuse them of things when we need them in order to build and build this encyclopedia. Thank you. Calaka (talk) 05:49, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Do not take this personal dude! The articles are not owned by you (just started by you!). I didn't pick your article because I saw you and thought... HMMMMM I WILL PICK ON THIS NEWB... I just saw it come up on the list of new articles created, it didn't have a ref so I added a tag to say that one was needed. That is also the point. There are many other articles out there that do not have a ref. We can't see everything! I only have one pair of eyes and I have a life outside of wikipedia! I just happened to see your one because as I said you happened to created it at the point of time when I was looking. Hence your douche claims are unsubstantiated. ;)
Therein lies the rub with regards to refs though. No refs... article won't stay (assuming someone notices it... it just so happened no one noticed the 2003 article you mentioned for 2 years!). Every wikipedia article needs a ref. Ask any random wikipedian about it and he will tell you the same thing.
So please let's leave it at that. Sorry to make your first few days at Wikipedia problematic (unintentionally mind you!!). I wish you the best with your articles. Later. Calaka (talk) 06:28, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Using FIBA archive as a reference

[edit]

Hello Bds, I think it's fine to use the FIBA online archive as a primary-source reference. If that's what you're doing, you should let people know where the information comes from by listing the website under "References" instead of "External links". See, for example, this edit. Thanks, Melchoir (talk) 01:44, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Lucca Staiger requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Mblumber (talk) 15:55, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Snigbrook for stepping in and removing this tag. Of all the articles I have created, this seems like one of the least likely articles to qualify for speedy deletion. Apparently starting for an NCAA Division I team and playing on the #7 ranked national basketball team in the world is not "notable" to this guy. Subjectively, I'm sure Mblumber doesn't care too much about him, but objectively, I don't see how the foregoing isn't notable.

New BLP stubs

[edit]

Please help and add tags on talk pages of the stubs you create:

  • WP Indonesia|class=stub|importance=low
  • WPBiography|living=yes

(within the curly brackets please)

It would be appreciated if you could help when creating new stubs to do that - thanks SatuSuro 15:10, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:53, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Metro News) Lim padlocks suspected prostitution front in Manila

June 20, 2010 12:57 pm

MANILA, June 19 –Mayor Alfredo S. Lim has ordered the immediate closure of a bar in Malate, Manila after over 200 women, including 17 minors, were rounded up on reports that the establishment was a front of prostitution.

Lim’s order was based on a recommendation made by Manila Department of Social Welfare (DSW) chief Jay dela Fuente, who said that the minors, aged between 16 and 17, remained under the custody of the DSW.

Ordered closed was the L.A. Café located at the corner of M.H. Del Pilar and Salas Streets in Malate, Manila including its annex just across the street.

Earlier, a foreign-based group called the International Justice Mission (IJM) wrote Lim, complaining about the operations of the L.A. Café, which reportedly was very much into prostitution, catering to foreign customers and which employed even minors.

In response, Lim ordered his chief of staff Ric de Guzman to coordinate with the Manila Police District and the Department of Justice, through the chief of its anti-human trafficking unit, Supt. Jess Kabigting, to verify the complaint.

A subsequent surveillance confirmed that the establishment was involved in the flesh trade.

The raid conducted by an inter-agency team rounded up over 200 persons, including those who were suspected to be working as pimps.

The raiding team was composed of representatives from the MDSW, MPD, labor department, IJM and the DOJ.

Dela Fuente, meanwhile, said that charges for violation of Republic Act 9208, or qualified human trafficking, and Republic Act 7610 or anti-child abuse law were filed against the managers identified as Emelinda Viray, Rodalyn Taja and Grace Perez; supervisor Lilia Montanilla and Carla Serrano and Nora Abellosa, who were suspected to be working there as pimps. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we must insist that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Just because I had issues in the past with PM800, doesn't mean I nominated his page because of that. I am not like that. I don't go against constructive edits. Emptyviewers (talk) 17:12, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

LOL. Thanks for welcoming me to Wikipedia, with all 20 of your edits. I have no desire to get into an argument with you, just pointing out that your deletion nomination was in bad faith. I will not assume good faith when you decide to come back to your user name for the first time in three months to try to delete an article with a person that you had plenty of issues with on an article that, in your words, "who would actually look [it] up"? By saying that, you make it crystal clear that you did not look it up yourself, but looked it up on the User you had fights with's Contributions page. The policy you cite is a nice general guideline, but a) I did not phrase my comment as a personal attack; and b) a discussion on an article that you put up for deletion is a very appropriate place to discuss possible bad faith. I'm simply weighing in on an Article for Deletion discussion; please do not include me in a nonsensical fight, as I have no desire to get into arguments. Thanks. Bds69 (talk) 17:37, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You assumed bad faith, and that is just the standard level one warning, it's not my fault that it welcomes you. I admitted that I looked it up because of its editor but that doesn't mean it was in bad faith. I would've nominated if I found if any editor created it. And like I said, I wasn't the first to nominate it. And I have made quite a few edits on various IP addresses. But if you want to treat me like a newcomer thats fine but it means you're also violating WP:BITE. Emptyviewers (talk) 17:49, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Look man, I know you were trying to cause trouble; you know you were trying to cause trouble. End of story. You can cite all the Wikipedia policies you want, but it won't change that simple fact. I made a simple comment on an Article for Deletion conversation that came out unanimously against you, and I have no intention of pursuing any bad faith allegations beyond that. As you should have learned from earlier fights, now is the time for you to stop arguing and disengage. For my part, you will receive no more replies from me. Bds69 (talk) 18:12, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was not trying to start problems. I had given up on PM800. If I was still trying to get him, I wouldn't have admitted to being the IP address. I just thought that it was a pointless article. When I saw everyone disagreed I gave up, and yet you still felt the need to accuse me. Now goodbye, and hopefully our paths won't cross again. Emptyviewers (talk) 19:49, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bds69. I wanted to say that I appreciate you sticking up for me (and stating the obvious) on the AfD page. I had disagreements with Emptyviewers and at least one of their IPs in the past, but I have resolved to let the matter go. And I hope that he/she will not continue to bother you from this point on. - PM800 (talk) 22:56, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I hate when people enjoy the drama of Wikipedia and yet we're supposed to "assume good faith" even though Emptyviewers admitted that he/she only came across the article by searching through your edits. Oh well - hopefully he/she won't nominate any more similar articles of yours or anyone else's now that he/she's been called out on it. Bds69 (talk) 15:16, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RE: College hockey articles

[edit]

Thanks so much for the work on the UNO Mavericks men's ice hockey page. I would say that's basically the structure for the college hockey team pages:

  • Basic Intro
  • History (subsections if long)
  • Season stats (if long, last 5 seasons)
  • Coaches, bio on current, table with previous coaching stats
  • Players, with subsections for current roster, All Americans, conf. and/or NCAA awards, and alumni
  • School records.
  • Extra sections, such as arena/facility section, National Championships, rivalries (notable & sourced), etc...

College Hockey Task Force and Wikiproject Hockey would be glad for any further contributions, I don't like either the stubs, I've been working on expanding article to at least have basic intro, history, coaches, and players sections with hope to add even more meat like the UNO page. Articles like North Dakota Fighting Sioux men's ice hockey have lots of usable tables but not much text, so basically they're stubs too in terms of readable content. I guess what I'm saying is any contributions are welcome! Thanks again, Bhockey10 (talk) 19:43, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Non-Notable sports arena.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Hussain Al-Khabbaz requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
