General sanctions: Syrian Civil War and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant

[edit]

Please read this notification carefully:
A community decision has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to the Syrian Civil War and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The details of these sanctions are described here. All pages that are broadly related to these topics are subject to a one revert per twenty-four hours restriction, as described here.

General sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

This message is informational only and does not imply misconduct regarding your contributions to date.

Note that there is currently a three month moratorium on requested moves for the article Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant‎ and by implication any similarly named subsidiary articles (such as 2014 military intervention against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant).

-- PBS (talk) 20:38, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is an RfC running at the moment asking if the moratorium should be lifted at the end of the RfC instead of waiting for 7 January 2015 (see talk:Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant‎#RfC: Three months moratorium on page moves).

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on File:Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri.png, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Replaceable fair use File:Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri video Al-Arabiya.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri video Al-Arabiya.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 00:26, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Are you alright? Haven't fallen down any staircases lately? I see you have listed many of my files for deletion that I had uploaded, and undoubtedly, you are roaming through my contributions as I type this to find the many, many more files which I had spent time and time filling out all those fair use rationales to make sure that they could be used on Wikipedia for the use of others. I'm going to ask you politely. Remove your filth from my talk page. Yours kindly, StanMan87 (talk) 02:15, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Ahmed Abdi Godane.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 23:21, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The same message applies to the following images: File:Mokhtar Belmokhtar.png, File:Abdul Ghani Baradar.png, File:Wakil Ahmed Muttawakil photo.png, File:Abdul Salam Zaeef.png. Non-free photos of living people do not qualify for fair use.

File:Abid Hamid Mahmud Iraq.jpg: the image portrays a deceased person, so the image qualifies for fair use. We can't say for sure who took the photo, where or when, so I have converted the file to fair use as an alternative to deletion. -- Diannaa (talk) 02:14, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Al-Furqān Media Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Al-Furqān Media Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.png, which you've attributed to http://jihadology.net/category/al-furqan-media/. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Diannaa (talk) 02:00, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I am Diannaa and I am an administrator on this wiki. I noticed you are uploading images, most of which have been tagged for deletion or are already deleted. Copyright law and its application are complex matters, so please don't upload any more photos that you find on the Internet or elsewhere until you have taken the time to read and understand our policies on copyright and non-free content. There's more information about copyrights and how it applies to Wikipedia at Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright. The non-free content rules as regards to images are at Wikipedia:Non-free content#UUI. Continuing on your present course is generating a lot of extra work for the people who are cleaning up after you, and could potentially lead to a block. Thank you. -- Diannaa (talk) 03:51, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Army of the Men of the Naqshbandi Order Officers.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". In the ISIL article you recently stated "It is rather clear cut which option is being supported" when nothing could have been further from the truth. More recently you presented "A re-cap for you:" which pretty much went over repeated content from the opening post while adding in content irrelevant to the current otherwise straightforward discussion relating to an "Islamic State" designation. Please do not derail the current discussion especially with content that, in my view, neglects to mention relevant Wikipedia article title issues. The group are widely regarded not to be Islamic (it was recently responsible for the death of a compassionate Japanese man who had only gone into the area to advocate for the release of another prisoner) and they are not a "state". Instead you presented what I consider to be a one sided partisan summation and again pushing a title that is not even under discussion. Your comment at 03:26, 1 February 2015 was completely irrelevant and an utter violation of WP:CRYSTAL. It seems to me that you refuse to WP:DROPTHESTICK even when the horse wasn't even there. I raised objection at the last hastily presented RM at verbose repetitive content. My hope is that the current RM will not be forced down a similar track. Please consider that no editor owns the talk page and that it is there for balanced discussion relevant to the discussion at hand.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Replaceable fair use File:Mokhtar Belmokhtar.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mokhtar Belmokhtar.png.

Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:01, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
