The Special Barnstar
For sticking around after all. GregorB (talk) 15:03, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Good to see you back! GregorB (talk) 15:03, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose "sticking around" describes it as well. I think I've scaled down my editing, these days I'm trying to enjoy it more. GregorB (talk) 00:39, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WP:BLP

[edit]

Hi,

I noticed that in this edit (diff) you referred to some authors as "dubious figure". That is clear violation of WP:BLP. Will you please be so kind not to repeat such violations in future. All the best.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 20:22, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Did you also notice that this was a post on an article's talk page rather than article itself and hence WP:BLP does not apply? All the best. Timbouctou (talk) 21:44, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
BLP applies across the entire project, not just article space.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:46, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Lol so this is how it's going to be. Wikipedists wikilawyering to keep articles of zero encyclopaedic value masquerade as articles. Laughable. Timbouctou (talk) 21:49, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not wikilawyering anything or trying to keep any article. You made a statement regarding a core policy that was flat out wrong and I corrected you.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:54, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This was never a core policy, but perhaps times have changed. Yes, there is such a thing as dubious figures and yes I will keep calling them that. Thanks so much for your correction. Timbouctou (talk) 21:56, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Custom signature fix needed

[edit]

Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error, specifically formatting tags that are in the wrong order.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
 1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
 2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
 3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
 4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
 1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
 2. Change the signature as shown below, or make other edits to make the signature appear how you want it to appear.
 3. Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.

Current signature:
<span style='font-family: Georgia, serif; color:#639;'><em>Timbouctou</em></span> (<span style='font-family: Georgia, serif; color:#639;'><em>talk</em></span>)

Fixed signature:
<span style='font-family: Georgia, serif; color:#639;'><em>Timbouctou</em></span> (<span style='font-family: Georgia, serif; color:#639;'><em>talk</em></span>)

More information is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:56, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! This fix is still needed. This contribution, for example, added syntax errors to an editor's talk page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:47, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. You didn't provide a source for your changes to the David Schweitzer article, and I couldn't find one either. If you have a reliable source please let me know and we can change the article. Please let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 15:24, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I used the Hebrew language Wiki article which lists a number of sources. And his coaching years are listed at every individual club article over there. Timbouctou (talk) 17:45, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your revert, you are doing a wonderful job. Also, the source already listed at the bottom of the article lists his time at Hapoel Tel Aviv so when you find the time get it back into the infobox. Thanks Timbouctou (talk) 17:47, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your sig

[edit]

Your custom signature is breaking syntax highlighting on every page where it appears, due to unbalanced italic markup. The imbalance is there twice, once in each link of the sig (the user link, and the talk link). Here they are, separated, so you can see it more easily:

 • <span style='font-family: Georgia, serif; color:#639;'><em>Timbouctou</em></span>
 • (<span style='font-family: Georgia, serif; color:#639;'><em>talk</em></span>)

The problem is the italic markup () in each link, which is never closed. Normally, you would simply add closing italic markup after the closing </span> tag, to balance it. But in your partiular case, since you're already using <em> markup to produce italics, that means the initial here doesn't actually do anything (even if it were closed properly) so you could simply remove it from each link. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 18:13, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I think I fixed it. Timbouctou (talk) 20:06, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Into the Unknown with Josh Bernstein has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to be notable. Nothing found in a BEFORE. Tagged for notability since 2020

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I see you have reverted my edit on the Puntland article, but I fail to understand what's the problem with it.
The links to cup finals point to Wiki articles on respective matches, each listing the squad with Pentland in it (1923, 1926, 1930, 1931, 1932, 1933).
Moreover, the body of the article itself mentions these trophies and finals, complete with references, such as this article from WSC, or this or even this source on Athletic Bilbao's archived page.
All of these are already sourced and mentioned in the article, and it seems bizarre to request the removal of what is a essentially just a summary of what's already included and referenced in the body to be sourced additionally (and especially to claim that you couldn't find any sources). Please add the sources directly to support the information you are adding. GiantSnowman 20:10, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have nothing to add, the references you are asking for already exist in the article itself. If you "can't find any" I suggest you read the article. Timbouctou (talk) 20:12, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The burden is on you to verify the information you are adding. The section you have added does not contain any sources whatsoever. That is good enough. GiantSnowman 20:12, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WSC only seems to support some of what you are claiming??? GiantSnowman 20:15, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This says he won 12 honours with Athletic, but does not specify which ones??? GiantSnowman 20:20, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I assume the Bilbao page counts Spanish Cups (5) and League titles (2) plus regional competitions. BDFutbol lists 7 trophies on his profile page and says he managed 132 games in La Liga (including promotion with Madrid in 1933–34). Transfermarkt database profile also lists these 7 national trophies.
The Biscay Championship was a regional tournament which served as qualifier for the Spanish Cup - Pentland was at Athletic between 1922 and 1924 when they won two titles (1923, 1924), and then again from 1929 to 1933 when they won another three (1931, 1932, 1933). Databases don't count these, but that's how they ended up with 12 trophies total.
The Spanish Wiki article about Pentland lists these 12 (under the section "Titulos"). It doesn't have inline citations, but it does cite a 2016 Spanish-language biography about Pentland's life written by sports journalist Jon Rivas Albizu. Here is a blurb about the book, which also mentions 12 trophies attributed to him. To this day, he remains the most successful coach in the history of Athletic Bilbao. That's all great. It's a shame you could not bring yourself to add citations to the unsourced section you repeatedly added. GiantSnowman 14:31, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The dates/places of birth/death at Elie Rous are also unsourced. There is a concerning pattern developing here. GiantSnowman 07:52, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of Yugoslavian Athletics Championships winners, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Petar Šegedin.
