Template:Disputed research
[edit source]Hi Samwilson! I noticed your edits on Template:Disputed research. I presume that the template itself is not disputed. Therefore, I added <includeonly> tags for the category. Let me know if you have any questions. -- Dave Braunschweig (discuss • contribs) 14:25, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- I think I almost thought of that when I edited it :-) but was really just there to correct the message template parameter, in passing as it were. I don't really have any use for that template! Thanks for fixing it up. — Sam Wilson ( Talk • Contribs ) … 23:36, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
User entry box in Biographies
[edit source]Thanks for creating this, a great idea. However, we are classifying biographies in three ways, based on experience as to how these are created. Most bios are actually moved from somewhere else, having been found "floating," so to speak. If they are going to be created in place, they should be created as subpages. of the three biography subpages (or elsewhere as subpages of resources, as, say, a resource on physics might include a biography of a physicist).
So I moved a modified form of your box to the subpages, where it now displays above the list of biographies in the category. There are no pages in the "collaborative category," it was created to set up the possibility....
Thanks again. --Abd (discuss • contribs) 18:47, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- Good point. I should've realised that before. Thanks for fixing it up! — Sam Wilson ( Talk • Contribs ) … 23:02, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit source]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Sam. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Sam~enwikiversity that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Initial experiences (and blogs)
[edit source]I like this edit but revisionuser loads the name of the user that made the previous edit to the page. I can't find a magic word for the current user.
BTW, what did you mean by "enabling" learning blogs? Is this a module or extension? I've found learning blogs to be an interesting exercise, esp. when others comment. See User:Mu301/Learning blog. --mikeu talk 17:05, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hm, yes you're right! I'm sorry, I should've picked that up. The trick is to do a similar link, but subst the revisionuser variable instead; this I guess means the link has to come from a template. Here's an example.
- And, w.r.t. learning blogs: no, I just meant 'enabling' in a general sense. Blogging here is very possible at the moment, but I guess I'm excited about the possibilities of adding extra features like RSS feeds and other integrations. Wikiversity feels a bit isolated sometimes, and it'd be nice to make it easier to send tentacles out into the wider web. :-) I've tinkered with a tool for producing RSS feeds based on categories and microformats; might get it up on toolserver one of these days. Certainly I think there's more scope for encouraging blogging.

- I figured it out! The subst trick works, but one has to bamboozle it with an empty <noinclude></noinclude> tag. Does it work now for you? — Sam Wilson ( Talk • Contribs ) … 22:20, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- It gives me an edit box with {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} in the subject. "Show preview" then adds my username above the editable subject. It saves correctly. The only downside is that someone might change the subject as it looks odd if you don't know what it does. I'd day this work if we can preload a comment that says explaining why it is there. --mikeu talk 23:58, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- That can be done using the
editintro
parameter, which should point to a page that contains the text that we want to display above the editing box. See mw:Extension:InputBox#Parameters. — Sam Wilson ( Talk • Contribs ) … 01:38, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Blogging on a wiki
[edit source]Thanks for your note on my talk page. Have you ever seen the system for blogging that was developed at Wikia? JWSchmidt (discuss • contribs) 22:49, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
- @JWSchmidt: No, but that sounds very interesting, thanks for pointing it out. It's good that other wikis are doing it. There's probably not much chance of a blogging extension being installed on Wikiversity, but it seems like we can get reasonably close with some clever templates and a bit of user training. I'm thinking of doing some work on the {{blog}} template to make it more of a general blog-front-page template for people to use on their user pages (or User:Username/Blog subpage perhaps); what do you think? — Sam Wilson ( Talk • Contribs ) … 02:57, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
