"Taking a bead on" something means to aim (i think a weapon) at it. One dict says "A small metal knob on the muzzle of a firearm, such as a rifle, used for sighting."

Queen of the South S5E8 has a use consistent with sense 5 “we don’t have a bead on it” if sources are required (maybe it’s a metaphor based on aiming a weapon as stated above). Overlordnat1 (talk) 21:54, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
