Inherited from Old Spanish, borrowed from Andalusian Arabic بِسْنَاج (bisnāj), بِسْتِنَاجَة (bistināja), بِشْتِْنَاجَة (bištināja), بِشْتِنَاقَة (bištināqa, parsnip), from Latin pastināca (parsnip, carrot).
