Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *ϑeuk-, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱewk- (to glow, burn, lighten). Perhaps related to flak (flame).

Cognates include Avestan 𐬯𐬀𐬊𐬐 (saok), Northern Kurdish sotin and Persian سوختن (suxtan, to burn).
Check also Ancient Greek τήκω (tḗkō, melt, dissolve)[1][2]
Alternatively to be compared with Lithuanian senkù, sèkti (to sink, to dry up), Gothic sigqan (to sink), Proto-Slavic *sęknǫti (to dry up).
