Just recently, we have started creating a series of 'quilt as you go quilt' (QAYG) block tutorials. These are super fun to make and personally, it's one of my favourite ways to make a quilt. So since we started adding the QAYG blocks, we have been getting numerous questions on how to join them together. So here we are with a tutorial on just how to do that. My daughter asked me to teach her to quilt. I was making half square triangles for another quilt, so I gave her some to "play with", to let her discover how many different blocks you can make with half square triangles. Then I taught her how to use the sewing machine to sew a 1/4" seam, and another quilter was born! Log cabin blocks can't be sashed if you want to make a traditional pattern. I choose the straight furrows pattern for this one. Here's the finished block- I added a free motion maple leaf in the center of the block, and used my walking foot to stitch-in-the-ditch around the logs.
