7.1.-“There is” “There are”

Esta estructura, se usa para expresar, si existe algo (o no), se utiliza en cualquier
ámbito (personas, cosas, animales, situaciones).
Para este tema, lo primero es recordar el significado de singular y plural.

Singular: es cuando nos referimos a la UNIDAD, a un solo sustantivo.

(Perro Dog) (Manzana Apple) (Polvo Dust)

Plural: es cuando nos referimos a dos o más.

Para este tema, es importante recordar el Verbo TO BE (ser o estar) que en este
caso no tiene el significado que ya conoces (UNIDAD 1), sino que ahora tiene el
significado de HABER.: There is (hay en singular). There are (hay en plural) y
debemos tener en cuenta cuando se habla en singular y plural para su uso.

7.1.1 “There is” “There are” forma afirmativa, negativa e interrogativa.

Observa el siguiente EJEMPLO de la estructura en sus tres formas:

There is There is an apple on the table.

(Singular) Hay una manzana sobre la mesa.

HAY There are There are two apples on the table.

(Plural) Hay dos manzanas sobre la mesa.

Como se hace uso del verbo To Be, observa que sucede en las oraciones, negativas e
interrogativas:

There IS NOT a bus near the school No hay un autobús cerca de la escuela.
Is there a taxi in the corner? ¿Hay un taxi en la esquina?

PLURAL

There are 2 trees next to the house Hay dos árboles junto a la casa.
There ARE NOT 2 trees on the street. No hay dos árboles sobre la calle.
Are there 2 trees at the bus stop? ¿Hay dos árboles en la parada del
autobús?
Existe otra forma de NEGAR en singular y en plural. EJEMPLOS:

There is not a bus near the school. There is NO bus station near the school.
Es este tipo de negación se omite el Articulo definido ---A -
There are not 2 trees on the street There are NO trees on the street.
En este tipo de negación se omite el Número solo se menciona el plural.

Escribe THERE IS / THERE ARE en los espacios de acuerdo a cada caso

EJEMPLO:

7.2.- Respuestas Cortas (afirmativa y negativa).
Si tienes necesidad de contestar una pregunta con “there is / there are”, puedes dar una
respuesta corta.
EJEMPLOS:
0. Is there a big bathroom in your house? Yes, there is. / No, there isn´t.
0. Are there three cars in your garage? Yes, there are./ No, there aren´t.
