A 7.5 m high and 7.5 tons heavy monument to Prince Lazar of Serbia was placed last night in the city center of the northern part of #KosovskaMitrovica (#Kosovo and #Metohija, #Serbia). The monument, placed on a three meters high concrete pedestal, presents Prince Lazar with a sword in his right hand, while with his left hand he points towards #Gazimestan, the site of the medieval Battle of Kosovo (1389). This magnificent monument will be officially unveiled tomorrow (June 28th), on Vidovdan.

The name originates from the Ottoman Turkish word ''gazi'', meaning 'hero' and Serbian word ''mesto'', meaning 'place'. Gazimestan's meaning becomes ''Place of Heroes''. Incribed on the monument is Tzar Lazar's curse.
