Kammu Tennō (born 737, Nara, Japan—died April 9, 806, 50th emperor of Japan - established the Japanese capital at Heian-kyō (now Kyoto) where it remained until 1868. A set of characters I designed for Artstation's Feudal Japan: The Shogunate Character design challenge. Challengers were assigned to design a set of 8 characters (Shogun, Samurai, Ninja, Daimyo, Emperor, Geisha, Peasant and Yokai). For this project I took a realistic approach trying to use accurate clothing, tools, weapons and color palettes.
