The Russian royal family had numerous palaces, mansions and dachas (summer houses) throughout Russia (and what is now, in some cases, abroad) and many of them are veritable architectural masterpieces. After the change in government, all of them were nationalized into state property, but there are still some you cannot get into.

If St. Petersburg amazes tourists with its spectacular western-style palaces, Moscow can offer more traditionally Russian ones, which you won’t find anywhere outside the country.
