Use a piece of Masonite about an inch wider on all sides than your watercolor paper. Soak the paper in water till thoroughly wet. Place paper on Masonite.. Hold in place with screen molding or lattice strips and Bulldog clips all along the edges about 1/2 inch. No tape. No Staples. Clean border.

James Colmer Art on Instagram: "For stretching big, I’ve needed to improvise in the past to find the best solution to keep that fine art paper super flat AND not buckle under heavy saturation. After trial and many errors, here’s my 3 top tips: 1️⃣ Give your paper a cold shower! 🚿 I know it sounds wild but you need to get your paper super wet. I’ve found the best way to do that is to pop it in the bath or shower. (Shower’s the eco option here) 2️⃣ Sponge it flat Grab a fresh sponge (admittedly, mine’s a tad small here) and smooth out those paper kinks while it’s wet. 3️⃣ Gum to victory! Whip out your gum strip and place the sticky end down on the sponge. Drag along the sponge with your spare hand on top.
