Athletics Diversity & Inclusion Committee
Athletics Diversity & Inclusion Committee (ADIC)
Formed in 2020, Montana’s Athletics Diversity & Inclusion Committee (ADIC) was created to increase cultural competency by educating ourselves, our peers and our community.
Its mission statement reads: The Athletics Diversity & Inclusion Committee will combat racial injustice, systemic racism and all forms of inequality within the athletic department and our broader community. Our work will foster open and honest dialogue through education, activism, self and departmental disruption, and listening with empathy and respect.
The inaugural committee, which featured athletics director Kent Haslam as well as 10 student-athletes, five coaches and five staff members – nominated and appointed by their peers and colleagues – took several action steps during its first year. Its initiatives from the first year included pushing for voter registration among all eligible student-athletes, coaches and administrators; creating patches that were worn by all student-athletes on their uniforms or other apparel; creating and distributing bracelets to increase awareness and show allyship; hosting several open forums for the entire athletics department to listen, learn and share stories and experiences; and conducting a survey that went out to all student-athletes and staff members to better learn the department’s strengths and shortcomings regarding diversity and inclusion.
In addition to ADIC, there are several resources on campus for students and student-athletes alike:

China Table Club |
The China Table club aims to foster a sense of community between students studying Chinese, students of Chinese descent, and students visiting from China at the University of Montana. This club is a way for all of these students to connect, share knowledge and experiences, and grow a network of citizens informed about Chinese culture and current events. We hope to do this by creating meetings where students can try different Chinese foods, activities, and test their Chinese speaking skills. These examples include MoonCakes, Mahjong, scroll painting, Chinese movie night, and conversation with Chinese speaking students and professors. | emaly.kimm@umontana.edu | (952) 388-3836 |
