Zips Record Nine Aces in Sweep Over Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich -The Akron volleyball team needed just three sets (25-16, 25-22, 25-21) to defeat the Eastern Michigan Eagles Friday on the road at George Gervin GameAbove Center .
Emanouela Christodoulou finished with 14 kills on the day to lead the Zips attack. Eliska Vytiskova also pitched in with six aces in the contest. Vytiskova's six aces ties her for the seventh most recorded by a Zip in a single game. She also finished with 29 assists. Defensively, Akron was led by Delaney Gash and her 12 digs. Gash also chipped in with nine kills on the night. Ellen Kinnaird recorded four blocks against the Eagles while Gabby Brissett and Gash both had two.
On the night, the Zips recorded nine aces against Eastern Michigan.
The victory boosted the Zips' record to 10-17 overall and 6-9 in MAC play.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips won the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to win the first set 25-16. Akron led by as many as nine points at 12-3 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills in the set. Akron also supplemented their offense with six aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Akron put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-22 victory in set number two. The Zips grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that featured 10 ties and six lead changes.
SET 3 | Akron finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after taking set three. The Zips the set set three 25-21. Akron took the lead for good at 14-13 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Zips took over in the second half of the stanza. The Zips racked up 17 kills over the course of the set.
