Nancy Hardison on Instagram: "I love Ombré 💝. It’s when one color blends seamlessly into another until you have a gradient. I tried to blend the glaze after applying it to the bisque ware but failed because the clay drinks it up too fast. I stumbled upon this technique and it works perfectly.

Tips:
-Apply 1 coat of your glazes normally.
-Use a fan brush.
-Dip each side of the brush in an adjacent color.
-Apply the glazes roughly which blends the 2 colors.
-Most brush on glazes suggest 3 coats so I do this again and it blends even more beautifully

This is a reboot of my airplant jellyfish which was a good seller last year.

I have quite a few upcoming markets. I hope to see you soon!

Using an airbrush to apply underglaze (or glaze) is a great way to add color and patterns to your pottery. It also is one of the easiest ways to create gradient color or the ombre effect. This technique can be used for glaze as well, but I find it better suited to underglazes. Kirsty Kash on Instagram: "Smooth gradients can be tricky to achieve with underglazes because they don’t look the same after firing as they do straight out of the jar!! Here are a few things I’ve figured out over the years: 1. Avoid applying layers of colour in straight lines. When the bands of colour flow up and down organically with your design the gradient will appear smoother. 2. I rarely use a pure colour straight out of the jar. Introduce a little bit of the next colour from the beginning so that the shift will be more subtle. Amaco’s Velvet underglazes are my favourite because they mix so well and the colours are so vibrant! 3. Some pigments are shy and others take over! Find colours that have a similar intensity so that you can blend them easily. For example, Amaco’s Red velvet Pottery With Words, Amaco Glaze Layering, Velvet Underglaze, Amaco Glazes, Happy Pride Month, Clay Texture, Ceramic Inspiration, Happy Pride, Color Glaze

We've seen designers do a lot of crazy things with ceramic in our career, but Philipp Schenk-Mischke's incredibly bizarre process might be our favorite yet — he uses a body vibration plate, co-opted from the fitness industry, to gently jiggle his way to a unique, slumped ceramic form.
