Center for Career Development and Academic Exploration

The center provides career-related programs, resources, and services to students and alumni. It helps students choose majors, find jobs and internships, and navigate graduate school admissions. Additionally, the center supports students in gaining career readiness and successfully preparing for their post-graduation goals. University Exploratory students receive academic advising from coaches in the career center.


Center for Global Engagement

The Center for Global Engagement (CGE) serves as the central international hub for the university, providing resources and support for education abroad opportunities, international and intercultural programming, global research, international student and scholar services, English language study, developing and managing international partnerships, and much more.  

CGE is organized into six major units: 

With approximately 1,200 international students from over 100 different countries, some 500 international scholars, and more than 1,500 UT students studying abroad every year, the CGE keeps UT connected around the world. 


Division of Student Life

The Division of Student Life is charged with improving student life at the University of Tennessee. Its various departments encompass many different aspects of university life but all work toward one goal—providing students with an engaging and enlightening atmosphere of living and learning. The division is committed to an uncompromising respect for diversity, strong partnerships with university programs, and support of the university’s academic mission. The mission of Student Life is to develop student-centered opportunities that contribute to a transformative Volunteer experience. These experiences create a climate in which learning, caring, mattering and belonging, and leadership and engagement can thrive.

The Vice Chancellor for Student Life oversees the departments in the Division of Student Life. These units offer programs and services that assist and support students in their life outside the classroom: Center for Health Education and Wellness, Jones Center for Leadership and Service, Center for Student Engagement, Multicultural Student Life, Office of the Dean of Students, Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life, the Pride Center, RecSports, Student Conduct & Community Standards, Student Counseling Center, Student Disability Services, Student Government Association, Student Health Center, Center for Care and Resilience, Student Union, and University Housing.

Office of the Dean of Students

The Office of the Dean of Students assists students through advocacy, support, and mattering and belonging. Programs and services help students successfully navigating through the UT campus community. The Office of the Dean of Students oversees the following areas:


Student Disability Services

Student Disability Services (SDS) is the designated office responsible for ensuring equitable access to academic programs and campus life for eligible students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. SDS engages in an interactive process with students with disabilities to develop accommodation plans and partners with the university community to provide disability education, advance the concepts of universal design, and promote disability as a component of diversity. Office of Equal Opportunity and Accessibility

Office of Investigations & Resolution

The Office of Investigations & Resolution (OIR) serves as the central campus investigation unit for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (including the UT Institute of Agriculture and the UT Space Institute), the UT System Administration, and the UT Institute for Public Service. OIR’s mission includes: (i) receiving, assessing, and investigating and/or otherwise resolving reports of employee violations of university policy in a prompt, thorough, and impartial manner; (ii) advancing the university’s commitment to providing a safe and welcoming living, learning, and working environment; (iii) supporting university expectations for workplace behavior; and (iv) facilitating compliance with applicable federal law, state law, and university policy, including campus equal opportunity and nondiscrimination policies. 


Office of Innovative Technologies

The Office of Innovative Technologies (OIT) provides technology resources and services including OIT accounts, computer support, e-mail, computer labs, online course management, technology training, collaboration tools, software and applications, network services, information security, and student and administrative systems; provides network access and cable TV in the residence halls. The OIT HelpDesk is available to assist you by phone, chat, in person, and online. oit.utk.edu.


Office of Multicultural Student Life

Multicultural Student Life is dedicated to promoting a welcoming and inclusive campus environment while advocating for traditionally marginalized students. This is achieved by providing academic support, multicultural education, identity exploration, leadership development, and diverse, innovative programming through collaborative partnerships. The aim is to assist in the retention and graduation of students who are empowered to positively impact a global society.


Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards

Student Conduct & Community Standards develops student integrity and accountability through an educational, consistent, and equitable conduct process. The conduct process is educational in nature and centered around student development. Although Student Conduct can issue disciplinary outcomes, most all allegations of misconduct are resolved through an educational and developmental approach. The process is designed to promote learning and development as it relates to appropriate decision making.


Pride Center

The mission of the Pride Center is to provide academic and social support for the LGBTQ+ community at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. It serves as a space for all members of the UT community to engage with and explore issues relating to gender and sexuality. This mission is accomplished through educational programming focused on gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation; contributions to and maintenance of a campus LGBTQ+ community; and advocacy for equitable access for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff on campus.


Academic Success Center and Vol Study Center

The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides undergraduate students with academic support services such as supplemental instruction, study sessions, and academic coaching. Academic coaches provide personalized strengths-based coaching for incoming students through Vol Success Teams while also assisting continuing students in developing academic skills and goals. The ASC also assists students facing academic probation, dismissal, and readmission. 


University Libraries

The University Libraries transform lives through a shared commitment to discovery, creativity, learning, and engagement. Access to collections, technologies, services, and expertise is provided to support research, learning, and belonging. These resources are available online and at three locations: John C. Hodges (main) Library, Pendergrass Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Library, and DeVine Music Library. The UT libraries offer over 3.6 million titles, including print and electronic books, journals, and media. Assistance is available even when not on campus, with support for finding the necessary resources. Visit the library website to find resources, reserve a room, make an appointment with the librarian who specializes in a particular discipline, or chat with a librarian about research needs, day or night.  

The Commons, on the second floor of Hodges Library, offers students help with research, writing, and academic support, as well as access to technology. Students may check out equipment such as laptops and cameras, use group study rooms, attend online classes, create videos or multimedia projects in the Studio, practice presentations, use the gaming or VR lab, visit the coffee shop and convenience store, and also use 3D printers, sewing machines, and other fabrication tools in the Medbery Makerspace. Two branch libraries offer specialized collections, spaces, and services: the Pendergrass Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Library on the Agriculture Campus and the George F. DeVine Music Library in the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center. Other unique collections available to students include Special Collections (manuscripts and rare books) in Hodges Library and online digitized collections of some of the library’s unique holdings at digital.lib.utk.edu.
