Erfahrungen mit der fünften EU-Erweiterung

Abstract

Die fünfte EU-Erweiterung in den Jahren 2004 und 2007 hat nicht nur den Binnenmarkt vergrößert. Auch die Eurozone vergrößerte sich auf 15 von 27 Mitgliedstaaten, und der Schengenraum wird auf 22 Mitgliedstaaten ausgedehnt. Wenngleich der Arbeitsmarkt noch nicht voll integriert ist, haben die meisten neuen EU-Mitgliedsländer von der Teilnahme am EU-Binnenmarkt bereits profitiert: Mehrheitlich wuchs ihre Wirtschaft rascher als zuvor, und ihr Handel mit der EU 15 nahm erheblich zu. Wie erwartet zogen aus der jüngsten Erweiterung die neuen Mitgliedsländer viel größeren Nutzen als die Länder der EU 15.
