Abstract

Empirical findings suggest that there is a gender specific difference between income and fluctuation. It has been found that women are promoted at roughly the same rate as men, but receive smaller wages. Promoted women are more likely to quit their job than promoted men, whereas women who never have been promoted are less likely to quit than men. This paper focuses on a theoretical explanation of gender based pay and turnover on the basis of the Tournament Theory by assuming gender based differences in aggressive behaviour or cost of sabotage.
