Professor Steven J Rouse

Steve Rouse teaches six courses per year at UK Rosenberg. These include five sections of Alternative Dispute Resolution and a section of Negotiations. During his many years here, the ADR course he teaches has become among the most popular experiential learning experiences offered. UK's College of Education has honored him with a Teacher Who Made a Difference Award for his law teaching. Rouse has also previously served as the faculty advisor to the Sports and Entertainment Law Society and co-coached the BLSA Negotiation team at UK Rosenberg.

He also runs Rouse Dispute Resolution, which specializes in the mediation and arbitration of civil matters, especially those in which the highest degree of lawyerly independence is sought.

Rouse is a former litigator at the Chicago office of Jenner & Block LLP, where he worked on large civil litigation matters and published a comprehensive revision of an Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) specialty litigation guide. Before teaching at UK Rosenberg, Prof. Rouse also served as Visiting Lecturer at the University of Alabama School of Law in Tuscaloosa. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, and those Latin honors are bestowed only upon approximately the top 5% of each graduating class from Northwestern Law.  At Northwestern Pritzker, he also was recognized for an honors thesis he wrote on the use of juries in cases involving termination of parental rights. Additionally, Rouse served as law clerk to then-Chief U.S. District Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn of the Northern District of Alabama. Prior to all of the above, he earned two bachelors degrees with three separate academic majors as a James Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
