RULES COMPLIANCE IS EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY!
Always remember to ASK BEFORE YOU ACT. If you have questions or concerns regarding NCAA rules, please contact the APSU Compliance Office. APSU student-athletes are expected to comply with all NCAA, ASUN and institutional rules and regulations..
Agents
Entering into an agreement with an athletic agent, either in writing or verbally, or receiving any kind of benefit (including family members and/or friends) will result in a loss of eligibility in your sport. Securing an agent to assist with Name, Image, and Likeness activities is permissible so long as athletics ability is not being marketed.
ARMS and TeamWorks
Student-athletes will use ARMS for time management and verification of weekly CARA logs, signing of required compliance forms (NCAA, ASUN, APSU, Employment Verification, Notification of Transfer, Outside Competition, NIL disclosures, etc).
Countable Athletically Related Activities (CARA)
A countable athletically related activity is any activity with an athletics purpose involving student-athletes that occurs at the direction of, or supervised by, any member of the institutional coaching staff members (including strength/conditioning coaches. These activities will count against the NCAA's daily and weekly limitations on number of hours student-athletes can participate in. Â
Drugs and Drug Testing
Student athletes are subject to drug testing by the NCAA and APSU Sports Medicine. The NCAA bans drugs by class (e.g., stimulants), along with any substance chemically related to those classes. NCAA banned drug classes include: anabolic agents, alcohol and beta clockers (for rifle only), anti-estrogens and Beta-2 Agonists, masking agents (e.g. diuretics), peptide hormones and analogues, stimulants, and street drugs. The NCAA Banned Drug List and Drug Testing Program provides further information. The improper use of prescription drugs, illicit street drugs and banned substances can have a negative effect on the health and performance of student-athletes. Therefore, in addition to the NCAA Drug Testing Policy, APSU has its own drug testing policy found here. If you have any questions regarding either policy, supplements or need to report medications, please contact APSU Sports Medicine.
Eligibility
Student athletes must be enrolled in a minimum full-time program of studies towards a bachelor or masters degree, be in good academic standing, and maintain progress towards degree requirements to remain eligible for practice, aid and competition.Â
Employment
Student athletes are permitted to earn income through outside employment at any time provided compensation is for work actually performed and does not exceed the going rate in the locality for similar services. Compensation can't include any remuneration for the value the student-athlete has to the employer due to his/her athletic reputation. Student-athletes must submit the Employment Verification Form through ARMS for employment off campus.
Extra Benefits
It is an NCAA violation for a student-athlete to receive something generally that is not generally available to the APSU student body. Accepting an extra benefit will jeopardize a student-athlete's eligibility to compete. If you have questions regarding extra benefits, contact APSU Compliance Office.
Outside Competition
Outside competition can jeopardize a student-athlete's eligibility. As such, APSU student-athletes must receive approval from the Compliance Office prior to participating in competition as a member of an outside team or as an individual during the academic year and vacation periods. Submit the Outside Competition form in ARMS at least 3 business days prior to participation.Â
Promotional Activities
Per NCAA rules, the use of a student-athlete's name, picture or appearance in promotional activities is limited to educational, charitable and non-profit organizations. Student must not miss class, can only accept actual and necessary expenses related to their participation (must be documented), all monies derived from activity must go directly to the charitable, educational or non-profit organization and the student-athlete's involvement may not include co-sponsorship, advertisement or promotion by a commercial entity other than through the reproduction of the sponsoring organization's officially registered regular trademark or logo on printed materials such as pictures, posters, or calendars. Such activities must be submitted via ARMS and approved by APSU Compliance prior to the activity taking place.
Sports Wagering
NCAA rules prohibit participation in sports wagering activities and from providing individuals involved in or associated with any type of sports wagering activities concerning intercollegiate, amateur or professional athletics competition. Participation in a pool or fantasy league in which an entry fee is required and there is an opportunity to win a prize or money is prohibited. Any sports wagering can result in a loss of eligibility.
Amateurism
A student-athlete puts their amateurism - and thus their eligibility to play athletics collegiately - if they perform any of the following actions:
- Are paid (in any form) or accept the promise of pay for playing in an athletics contest;
- Sign a contract or verbally commit with an agent or a professional sports organization;
- Ask that their name be placed on a draft list [Note: there are some exceptions for basketball and baseball - check with APSU Compliance first!);
- Use their athletics skill for pay in any form (for example, TV commercials, demonstrations);
- Play on a professional athletics team; or
- Participate on an amateur sports team and receive any salary, incentive payment, award, gratuity, educational expenses or expense allowance (other than playing apparel, equipment and actual and necessary travel, and room and board expenses).
Transferring from APSU
NCAA rules preclude current student-athletes from having conversations with other institutions about the possibility of transferring without being in the NCAA Transfer Portal.  Please see Compliance Office so you can make an informed decision prior to submitting Notification of Transfer via ARMS Compliance Software. You can only be added to the portal during your sport's Transfer Window with the exception of graduate or graduating students.
