William Stoops, PhD, was named the 2024 Researcher of the Year by the Kentucky Psychological Association (KPA) in recognition of his service to psychology and outstanding academic record.

The GME Emerging Leaders program is designed to provide a leadership development opportunity to Chief Residents and Fellows in their important new leadership role. As part of the six-month program, a variety of personal and professional leadership topics are facilitated by UK HealthCare’s Enterprise Learning team, in coordination with other leaders across the enterprise.

Seth Himelhoch, MD, has served as chair of the UK College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry for the last six years. Dr. Himelhoch will soon bid the Commonwealth goodbye, relocating to the University of Chicago as chair of its department of psychiatry and behavioral neuroscience.

Samuel Potter, MD, considers himself a “lifelong Kentuckian.” He was born and raised in the Commonwealth and says he has no intentions of leaving anytime soon. The Pikeville, Ky., native grew up watching his father run a small medical practice, learning about health disparities affecting such rural areas from a young age.

Burnout is a problem in any profession, but it is rampant in health care. This national problem has been evident recently as the COVID-19 pandemic pushed many learners, practitioners, faculty, and staff to the limit.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in research? 

Dr. Haley Wehder

Haley Wehder, MD, loved birthday parties. So much so, that after only one year of knowing resident Conor Malloy, MD, she threw an elaborate surprise party for his wife.

Though not a “birthday party person” himself, Dr. Malloy couldn’t help but smile that Dr. Wehder went the extra mile for someone she only knew a short time.

Liz Arnold, PhD

Liz Arnold, PhD,  LCSW, is a new faculty member who brings years of experience as a behavioral intervention researcher. She recently joined the University of Kentucky College of Medicine faculty and is prepared to use her expertise to help bolster its clinical research enterprise.
