Creating the future of the Wikimedia Movement together
In 2017, we created a strategic direction to guide our Movement into the future: By 2030, Wikimedia will become the essential infrastructure of the ecosystem of free knowledge, and anyone who shares our vision will be able to join us.
Between 2018 and 2020, people from across our Movement came together in an open and participatory process to discuss how we can work toward this. The goal of this process was to develop recommendations for change within Movement structures and systems that would enable us to move forward in our strategic direction. What it became was a radical pilot effort for international collaboration that brought together hundreds of Wikimedians from across the world to discuss and create Wikimedia’s future.
The result of this collaborative effort is the Wikimedia 2030 Movement Strategy, which features 10 recommendations and underlying principles that outline a guide for change.
