Fiscal Year 2006 Appropriation

The U.S. National Science Foundation is funded at $5.58 billion for the 2006 Fiscal Year that began on October 1, 2005. This is an increase of $100.4 million over the FY 2005 funding level but a decrease of $23.83 million from the FY 2006 request of $5.61 billion.

The budget provides $4.33 billion for the Research and Related Activities account, $796.69 million for the Education and Human Resources account, $190.88 million for the Major Research Equipment account, $246.81 million for Salaries and Expenses, $11.36 million for the Office of Inspector General and $3.95 million for the National Science Board. These figures reflect the application of the recissions (0.28% and 1.0%) agreed to by Congress.
