In 1939, Basil Brown carefully unearthed a stain showing the outline of a giant ship after finding ship-rivets in the soil. The ship was 27m long. They then discovered that the buried ship had not been looted. A Cambridge University Archaeologist, Charles Philips, was brought in to lead a team in excavating the burial chamber.
