UN declares ocean emergency About 8 million tons of plastic enters the ocean every year. This amount is enough to kill over a million seabirds and at least 100,000 marine mammals. If drastic measures are not taken, within 30 years the volume of microplastics in the ocean will reach a billion tons, which will exceed the total weight of the fish living in the ocean.

The translucent, ethereal quality of the jellyfish symbolizes the hidden yet ever-present threat of microplastics in our environment. The insidious tiny plastic particles permeate our ecosystem, and the consequences of our plastic consumption have a profound impact on the natural world.

This needs to stop. Scientists estimate that there are 5.25 trillion bits of plastic debris in the oceans worldwide — that's more plastic pieces than stars in our galaxy! Awareness is the first step of change.
