Whether we want to turn a blind eye to some things or not, we can't deny that today's society is ridden with various issues. To escape harsh reality, we tend to bury ourselves in the virtual world, but even there you will be faced with some harsh truths that some artists will invite you to think through.

Exercise: Imagine creative metaphors for these concepts. Metaphors are potent shortcuts to instant and memorable understanding through comparison. A metaphor states that something is something else without using the word "like" or "as." They say this "is" that, "was" that or "are" that. It lets you transfer the qualities of one thing directly to another.
