Santa Fe City Manager Candidate Selected

24 Jan, 2025

Career City Manager Mark Scott is one step closer to becoming Santa Fe’s next City Manager after Mayor Webber selected him as the top candidate. Governing Body consent to Mr. Scott’s appointment is on the agenda for the Governing Body’s January 29th Regular Meeting. If the Governing Body votes to consent to the appointment, then he will start employment with the City on February 10th.

Mr. Scott’s impressive resume includes 34 years of experience as a City Manager. He served in 11 communities from Beverly Hills, California, to Spartanburg, South Carolina. Mr. Scott’s last four shorter assignments were through the California interim City Manager pool. He was the longest-tenured city manager in Beverly Hills, having served 14 years. Mr. Scott earned an MBA at Stanford University and is a life member of the International City Management Association.

Mayor Alan Webber says, “Mr. Scott’s experience is extraordinary, and his credentials are outstanding.  He is exactly the right person for right now. As a City Manager, he has always focused on getting things done for the community he serves, and that’s his job here.”

Mr. Scott has served as City Manager in several cities across California, including Indio, San Bernardino, Burbank, Fresno, and Culver City. He has worked with more than 90 city council members during his career.

The City Manager search began in October 2024 after the resignation of John Blair. The City received a total of 36 applications, with 19 candidates meeting the minimum qualifications.  Seven candidates, including Mr. Scott, met with City Council members and department directors.
