The barn swallow (Hirundo rustica) is the most widespread species of swallow. It can be found worldwide.

This distinctive passerine bird has blue upperparts, a long, deeply forked tail and curved, pointed wings. It lives everywhere except Australia.

The bird is becoming less common in Europe.[1][2]
