Black Soldier Flies at Home
Problem Statement
A surge in home egg production in conjunction with a shortage of chicken feed due to the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the desire for at-home self-sufficiency. To lead a more sustainable lifestyle and decrease household carbon footprint, it would be beneficial to create a system that harvests Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae for chicken feed using kitchen waste as the only input. The proposed approach is to design an at-home larvae-harvesting system with moisture and temperature control to feed small-scale chicken operations.
