Standard Operating Procedure
1. Check strings for fraying. If excessive fraying is seen replace strings. Too replace...
a. Cut strings and remove from platform and loosen nuts at top of frame to remove strings
b. Cut 3 new strings of provided string to about 1.3 meters long
c. Feed new strings through platform and double knot it so the string does not slip back through.
d. Take the other end of the string and place between the two end washers and tighten with nut.
e. Place to levels orthogonal to each other on the platform and adjust strings until both are level and tighten.
2. Place charged battery and IMU pack onto bottom of platform. If battery is not charged...
a. Use a micro USB cable and wall adapter to charge battery
3. Prepare horse cadaver leg segment for testing
4. Measure mass of horse cadaver leg segment with attached horse shoes
5. Place the leg so that the center of mass of the leg is going through the middle of the platform.
a. Place leg on platform
b. Rotate the platform until the strings intersect one another
c. Using a level to move the leg left-right and forward-backwards until centered
6. Rotate the platform with the rotation tool
7. Ideally, have a peer turn on the IMU. If being done solo, switch steps 6 and 7, you will be able to cut out bad data in the user interface.
8. Drop the rotation tool and allow the platform to rotate for at least 30 seconds. At the beginning, make sure the platform has minimal translation, pure rotation is ideal.
9. Stop the platform rotation and turn off the IMU
10. Repeat steps 6-9 without the leg attached but with the clamps in approximately the same position. Ensure this step is completed after the leg-run.
11. Retrieve microSD card and plug into computer and open MATLAB script.
12. Follow graphical user interface to set bound within the good data portion. Hit MOI button to run code to calculate mass moment of inertia of the horse leg and shoeing configuration about that trials principle axis.
13. Save the two log files from the MicroSD card so another location and then erase them from the MicroSD.
14. When all testing is complete, the platform should be wiped down with a disinfectant and allowed to air dry in an open space.
*Best to perform testing with two to three people.
**Repeat steps 5 through 13 about all principle axes of interest to get the inertia tensor.
