Form 1098-E

What is it?

If you paid $600 or more in interest on a qualified student loan during the year, you will receive a Form 1098-E, Student Loan Interest Statement, from the entity to which you paid the student loan interest.  This will help you calculate any student loan interest deduction.

For more information about the student loan interest deduction, please visit the IRS at:

Form 1098-T

What is it?

An eligible educational institution, such as the University of Kentucky, that receives qualified tuition and related expenses on a student's behalf must furnish form 1098-T to the student. This statement will help you to determine whether you, or the person who may claim you as a dependent, can claim an education tax credit.

For information about these credits, see IRS Pub. 970, Tax Benefits for Higher Education.

The University will produce a 1098-T form for students who were enrolled in the academic year and were billed for tuition and fee expenses in the current calendar year. Taxpayers are not required to include the form with their tax return. This financial information should not be construed as tax advice. It is simply a summary of the university's financial records.

I opted to receive my 1098-T by paper and have not received it.

If you opted to receive your 1098-T by paper prior to December 31, forms will be mailed to your permanent address by January 31.  Please allow 2 weeks for delivery.

What if I have more questions?

Please look at our FAQ section to see if the answer to your question is there.

You may want to consult a tax professional or the IRS for more information.
