SPORTS PERFORMANCE
MISSION STATEMENT
The core goal of the Tennessee State University sports performance program is to develop successful student-athletes by designing and implementing programs that are targeted to improve athletic performance while decreasing the chance of injury.
Each sports program is created to fit their specific sport. The goal of providing the optimal opportunity for our student-athletes to compete and win championships is done by using a combination of power and strength lifts, polymeric exercises, flexibility exercises, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, and recovery methods.
All student-athletes are assessed prior to training in order to identify potential future injuries as well as evaluate pre-existing injuries. The TSU sports performance coaches work alongside the Athletic Training staff in order to individually address each student-athlete that the staff works with. Beyond physical training, the TSU sports performance staff works with other staffs on campus and in the community to help develop work ethic, leadership skills, conflict resolution skills, life skills, and accountability.
